  • Safe Way to Get To Florida

Posted by John on October 5, 2015 at 12:37 pm

In light of the current weather related problems in South Carolina, looking for information on road conditions

from Hanover PA to Titusville FLA. Journey was supposed to take place on the auto-train from Lorton VA on Saturday 10/03/15. All trains cancelled until 10/08/15. Not sure they will be able to make the trip then either.

Any current road conditions and or alternative route planning would be appreciated. Considering going 81 south to 75 south to either 10 east to Savannah or 16 east to Jacksonville then 95 south?

    Thanks in advance.

That route makes sense. I would take 75 to 10 and then east to 95 but 16 will work also.

I-10 from 75 will bring you into JAX. I think 16 will bring you into Savannah.

Other option is to continue on 75 and take 40 (through Ocala) over to Daytona Beach. This will let you bypass JAX and the 295 outerloop around JAX.

As for I-95. My brother came down it yesterday and was turned around a good 40 miles past I-20. He ended up going back to I-20 west to Columbia and then down I-26 back to I-95 and then down into Jacksonville.

I-20 out to Columbia and then I-26 back to I-95 isnt that bad and only adds another couple hours to the trip so not terrible. Still more direct then going over to I-75 and going through ATL (which is a nightmare all it’s own on the best day).

Jon, thanks for the quick response. I know we can always count on you.

Charles, thanks for your reply and current road conditions. There is nothing like first hand knowledge. My wife and her mother are making the trip alone, so it is nerve racking to be so far away back in MA.
