S 60 Bus Engine Removal
Hello,
While having work done at ETLC, in Tennessee, in early
spring, I met a PC member that I remember as “Dick of Wisconsin” that talked of
going to the American Fleet Bus repair facility in Springfield, Mo to have the
valves adjusted on his S-60 Detroit engine.As I have never seen a bus engine pulled from the bus, I thought this
would be interesting to see.I hope he
would post any pictures showing this process.I hope that if the individual I spoke with was not Dick or Wisconsin,
please excuse the mis-fire.If the
individual that had this work done could please post the results with pictures,
this would be great.Thanks,

Hector, it might have been me. We talked late Feb or early March at Jeff’s and I mentioned we were scheduled for that procedure at that place the week of Labor Day. So not yet, but will try to get u some pics.

If you don’t mind me asking, how many miles do you have on your bus? I was considering the same but was with the understanding that it might be a little early for mine at 65,000 mi.

We’re going to AMerican Fleet 19 June for valve adjustment and a few other items. Will share how it goes!

Jim, we have 145,000 miles now, and have no identifiable symptoms. Ten years ago when we got it, didn’t know if it had ever been done, still don’t. From reading, Detroit says to do it at 60,000 miles and ur done until rebuild. From hearsay, don’t do it until u have symptoms or diminished performance. But at twenty-three years we will b taking advantage of the situation by replacing everything we can think of.

I always had the same opinion Dan, leave it alone if it’s running good, but I’ve changed my tune. Since I had a weeping oil leak up above the compressor, I figured why not do the overhead as well, my mileage was around 115K. Easy on an H, plenty of room to get the valve cover off even with jakes.
Glad I did, valves were out and I had missing rocker clips found laying in the rockers.
