RV Park Suggestions in NJ
I am looking for suggestions for an RV park close to Summit or Morristown NJ. Liberty Harbor in Jersey City and Mahlon Dickerson Park are the two best that I can come up with. Any suggestions?

I stayed at Liberty two years ago. Just a gravel parking lot with hook ups. But easy access to Manhatton.

As a former Secaucus kid my advice is to stay away from NJ.
But if you have to go I would bet your best option is Liberty. Your travel time to Morristown or Summit is maybe 35 to 45 minutes, but is highly dependent on traffic which can be bad during rush hours.
The convenience and access to NYC from Liberty will allow you to enjoy the city while you are there quite easily.

New Jersey is the Garden State but finding a place to park with a 45′ coach in Northern NJ could be a problem. In my estimation Liberty Park is good if you want visit NYC but its not easy to use it as a base to visit other parts of NJ unless you have plenty of time. If you google Morristown campgrounds there appear to some sites relatively close. Roger still has not recovered friom his short run through NJ from a few years ago. He ran out of quarters from all the toll booths and finally figured out what the one finger salute means.
And now you can finally understand why Jon has that crusty attitude…..because he’s from NJ.

What Rick fails to mention is NJ drivers drive as though they own the highway and if you think you are a polite, safe driver my advice is to stay home.
If a Jersey driver uses a turn signal consider it a warning. Space or not, he is coming into the lane. Often the turn signal just means he has cvompleted the turn. Pulling into traffic is easy to a Jersey driver. They see a 20 foot space between two vehicles and they just drive into it. The speed of the traffic is unimportant. If the person ahead of you stopped at a stop sign, you don’t have to. The red light means two cars can legally pass through it without hesitation. In fact if you hesitate for any reason while driving in NJ, you are marked and everyone except visitors from South Dakota will take advantage of you for the rest of the day.
Parallel parking is done using the touch method. Space is at a premium so you back in until your bumper is touching the car at the rear of the space, and then pull forward until your bumper pushes against the car at the front of the space. Never center your car in a parking space when parallel parking. The object is to see which car has the least space of the two you were just bumping, and then park your car against that car’s bumper so that car cannot get out of its space. If you have a large car it is OK to push and slide a smaller car. That not only applies to parking, but driving in general.
Never make eye contact with another driver in NJ. It is a sign of weakness. Tailgating is mandatory. The use of the middle finger is the universal language.
The good news about NJ drivers is when there is an entry ramp and merging traffic you never ever have people that hesitate. Everyone entering the interstate does it at a speed equal to or greater than the traffic on the right of way and if your front bumper is as little as 1/4″ behind the merging car’s front bumper expect that car to move into your lane. That will happen whether you are along side of that car or not. If you leave more than 2″ between your car and the car ahead that is real estate merging traffic will quickly occupy.
Use public transportation.

We love Liberty Harbor – but certainly not for its amenities. My wife is from Chatham and gives it the thumbs up as well. She is also proud of her NJ driving style.

Unfortunately Liberty Harbor is booked. It was my first choice and I am concerned about parks that wont really accomodate a 45 foot motorhome. Any other suggestions? We are going to be there for three days next week (Wed, Thurs, Fri).

Is there a business or local park that will allow you to dry camp in Morristown or Summit? We went to a wedding just north of NYC year’s ago and there was no RV park space available within a reasonable distance and the police in the town allowed us to dry camp behind the police station for 3 days.

Has anyone parked at Prevost New Jersey overnight?

I have when it was at the old place in Lyndhurst.
I have parked at an outlet mall in Secaucus overnight.
I haven’t been in that area in 15 years so I am not even sure those parking opportuities even exist.
