Rubber strap hanging
on my way home, I noticed about mid way back on the coach, there was a rubber (trap like strap) partially hanging. I crawled under the coach, but could not figure out what is was used for. It appears to have been broken, and could see where it was attached to the coach on the side still attached to the coach, but the end that seems to be broken, I can not see where it would have attached to.

It should be a chassie ground strap, bolted to the chassie hanging to the roadway to discharge static.

Forgive my ignorance, but I have never understood how a rubber strap conducts electricity. If it is static only I need to connect some straps to some family members.

Make sure you put those straps on family members with duc tape not staples.

Great question. Static Electricity travels over or through (I’m not sure which) materials that are insulators and not conductors. The rubber strap is actually a special compound, according to Gates Rubber. I question what they actually accomplish in an RV, but don’t care enough to actually find out. They are cheap, last a long time (mine needs replacing now), and certainly aren’t going to hurt anything.

While test driving a new 2015 Liberty Coach Elegant Lady about a week ago, I noticed the strap hanging about mid way under the coach while the salesman was parking the coach back in it’s slot.
I mentioned it to the salesman and he told me it was for static electricity. He said that when it wears down, just replace it. Apparently, it’s very easy to attach a new one and can be purchased at any auto parts store.
My understanding is that it has metal in it too along with the rubber as it drags along the road.
