  • Royale Owners – You May Have a Hidden Bonus

I decided to shorten the bedframe and mattress on my bus, it was ordered when new with a standard home queen, 60 X 80 and didn’t leave much room to walk around the bed. I got tired of the sideway shuffle needed to get by the mattress. So I shortened the platform to the normal short queen, 60 X 75 and have a local company taking 5″ off the mattress and then redo the covering at a cost of 75.00. The mattress is a good one, no need buying new.

So, much to my surprise, when I took the platform apart, I had all kinds of goodies from the factory. Wall covering, leather, bathroom tile, tile trim pieces, grout, felt and various other odds and ends. All the boxes marked with the Royale build number. So if you ever get the urge to take the bed platform apart, you may have a pile of gold in that compartment.

    Truk,

Ed is going to want 1/2.

IMO, that is the mark of a good converter. Ten years or so down the road it sure is nice to have extras like the ones in your care package. It sure makes life a little simpler!

Curiosity got the best of me.

    As well as the assorted
goodies you noted, I found sealed cans of touch up paint for all the exterior
    colors including the graphics.

Note however, I am keeping the adult size bed.

    Tuga,

Ed’s loss, I wonder if the tin can with money was his!

    John,

Remember, as you get older you shrink.

Which would suggest Truk is a lot older than he professes to be. John is normal size.

Dan Jordan at Royale Pheonix told me when I had my 2002 Royale that this is standard in all Royale caches. Always put in a compartment in the bed base. Good for all the Royale owners.

Ok, Tom!!!! Please don’t tell Ed about this find. I just wish that I could have piled alot more in that spot! Don’t mention the next finds in the Mandolin. I have to get rid of things some way!

Seriously, where is this spot you are referring to? At the head of the bed? or around the safe area? I was under that bed quite a bit stuffing things there, ex: windshields bought at Kerrville rally. I know there isn’t a secret place in our present bus because the beds have been changed from Queen to King and turned around and now there are the twin beds there.

    Sandy,

At the head of the bed there is a piano hinge about 18″ from the very top of the bed that allows the bed to be raised and lowered. That top 18″ is fixed and screwed down. Once the screws are removed, the entire bed platform can be removed and that’s where the secret compartment is located.

Found out Royale did that to all there conversions.
