  • Royale has erratic gen. amp meter

Posted by Jeff on October 13, 2016 at 2:32 pm

Hope a current or former Royale owner can offer info in this 97 Royal with this remote Amp meter that I’ve never known what it monitors or what insight it furnishes, however now it is pinging/swinging/pegging from one extreme to the other. It takes about 5 seconds to cycle back and forth between 300 -discharge and 300 – charge. It also swings in the middle ground occasionally. Its erratic. This happens on shore power. When I start the gen it stays on 300 on the discharge side but I have not studied the status as much on the generator running as I’ve observed while on shore power.

The generator was removed and reinstalled recentley so it’s possible something was rewired up incorrectly but I don’t konw where to start checking and the thing that has me concerned (worried acutally) is the constant erratic needle. Something seems to be cycling. Is this amp meter tied into my converters / chargers in any way ?

On my coach it monitors how much charge/discharge is happening with the house batteries. I noticed in your picture your house battery voltage is very low. Perhaps this erratic reading could be associated with bad house batteries? It seems like I remener you asking for house batteries a while back. If you haven’t replaced them it could be related. I’m not an electrician but do know that when our house batteries are shot strange things start happening.
