Royale Coach and Generators
I am the recent new owner of a 2006 Royale Coach. I know several other Royal owners who have this exact same annoying issue…….It takes two tries to get your generator running. Doesn’t matter what you do, but the first time you try to start the ginny, it will not start. It will always start on the second try, just not the first.
Now…..What I’ve come to realize is the crank time for the generators (set in the Silverleaf) is too short to start on the first try. It does work for the second try, but listening to the starter when trying to start the ginny, you realize the crank time is a very short blip of the starter.
Having some free time while on an extended trip, a friend (John Browder) also a Royale Coach owner and PC member and I set out to solve this issue. His coach is also a 2006 Royale Coach with the same 2-start problem.
I have spoken to Silverleaf about this issue, thinking they could extend the crank time in their firmware, but they swear their crank time is set to 18 seconds…..Impossible. I wonder if they are actually set to 18 milliseconds, which would make sense.
Anyway, with John’s help. we integrated a latching relay circuit in between the Silverleaf controls and the Generator, allowing to set whatever crank time I want. The factory crank time is 1/2 second or less…..I added 2 seconds to the latching relay for a total of 2.5 seconds crank time……..voila! Works perfectly! Starts first time!
I still plan on engaging Silverleaf for a factory solution, but I’m happy with the results so far.
Thought I would share in case there are any other Royale Coach owners out there who are fighting the same issue. Send me a note if you want details.
