Route Question
For those who live in the west, what is the best route from Phoenix to Las Vegas in March? 93? 95?
Any risk of snow?
Any issues with the quality of the roads?

I have seen snow in flagstaff in march,I am in wickenburg in march , 95 might be better , I have been on 93 to the 40 in march but u know it can snow in may or June out west I wish I had crystal ball for weather too…… Look what happened two weeks ago out west we got five feet of snow un heard of usually in late September ….. Where my ranch is we don’t get that snow till later December

Jon, take 93 for sure. Nice ride, above 3k feet most of the way and you’ll go over the new bridge at the dam. Pretty impressive. You could hit weather but you’ll know it in advance, plan accordingly. Good road, 2 and 4 lane.

Snow is highly unlikely on 93 in March. In the event of a freak storm, you could divert through Havasu. I would consider that a ‘red letter day’ as I might have a chance to meet ‘the legend’ personally!

We have used 93 in Jan. Feb.and March never seeing any snow. Flagstaff elevation is a lot higher than any of US 93.

We drove 93 last year in February. You won’t see snow unless there is a freak snow event and then it will last only one day. Part of the road around Kingman was in terrible condition and in dire need of repaving (around hwy40), the northern and southern parts were fine. Don’t know if they repaved the bad section.

You want to stay dry for certain…10W to 95N. Get yourself some Kettlecorn in Quartzsite, maybe a funky hat. Stay on the AZ 95 do not transition to CA 95 at Parker, first the Fruit Police then lousy road and boring. Very nice and scenic drive, you will pass thru Havasu and transition to 40W (now low altitude) to the 95. You will have some traffic as the snow birds are still visiting in March. I do believe there is a Loves at the corner of AZ 95 and I-40, better fuel there for the round trip because the prices will sky rocket. Want a break, turn right at Needles and get back on AZ 95 thru Bullhead and Laughlin, Don Laughlins Riverside Resort (on Casino Drive), huge and very inexpensive RV Park with mini busses every 10 minutes taking you to the hotel and the “strip”…..gratis. When you ar finished with Laughlin climb the rather steep hill on the West side of town and transition to 95 N. Good road from there all the way to Las Vegas. Should you choose to not take the “Laughlin Transition” , climb the hill on 40 W out of Needles and turn right on CA 95. Lousy road for about 20 miles, pay close attention to the RR Tracks shortly after turning onto 95, great place to leave all or part of your suspension system behind ….although they may have repaired it by now. Unless you like to really roll the dice with weather, stay away from Flag in your bus that time of the year, remember that city is 7000 feet MSL, just a couple hundred feet shy of Donner Pass……..
Errate:, Fruit Police Answers 1. Where are you coming from?, pick the closest city directly behind you prior to entering California. 2. Do you have any fruits or vegies on board?, NO (do not be gnawing on a apple while answering any of these questions and a barking dog helps out, prefer a pit bull). 3. Would you like a free map? NO. ….answer exactly as above and you will never have a problem. A recording of a Pit Bull, German Shepard or Rotweiller barking agressively does the same trick without the associated aggrevatiion, play it through your Bose at an appropriate volume. Added effect can be gained by turning your head aft and making a loud command in German while pushing the pause button on the remote. BTW this method also serves as a nice inexpensive burglar alarm when attached to the door bell of your coach, don’t forget a 30 second timer.

I’ve done 93 and 95 that time of year and have not hit snow on either. In my experience the 93 route has much better roads.
Do you have parking or will you be staying at the Las Vegas Motor Coach Resort? We love it there.

Unless they have penny slots we won’t be doing any gambling. I’ll need all our money for fuel. Actually we are doing a “bucket list” thing and have front row seats for Terry Fator. We are staying at the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort.
We are also doing a “Pawn Stars” (History Channel) behind the scenes tour, plus whatever else we can come up with to do in Las Vegas.
It does make sense to drive 4500 miles to see a show doesn’t it? 700 gallons of fuel, six days of driving.

Things we like to do in Las Vegas. Imperial Hotel Car Museum, Hoover Dam( leave the bus behind, tell Di not to look over downstream while on the dam. See Ethel M Chocolates (Mars Candy). Drive thru Red Rocks Park, is west of resort. See the architecture in buildings at new ” City Center”. Go to Old Downtown, nearby is Pawn Stars
Go up the Stratusphere Casino, and take Di on the “Big Shot” ride. She will love it more than going up Mt Evans. Take a pretty drive up to ski area on Mt Charleston. While in Vegas, if time permits, a few days in Death Valley. Love it there
Go east on I 15 to Motor Speedway to see Shelby museum. Also take Di to the Fashion Mall, shopping for her, interesting architecture for you
oh ya the Bellagio Hotel and Casino has an amazing display of Chihuly glass that’s hand blown. A walk around Ceasars palace Forums for canal boats and great restaurants and watch the ceiling change from day to nights cape. Tour Wynn hotel and see the Ferrari dealership
As you can tell, we keep our pennies in our pocket for diesel, too.

Heartily endorse the suggestion of a side trip to Death Valley if you have the time. March is the perfect month to visit.
