When I bought my coach, No one told me about the Detroit Diesel and the Allison Trans being paired with a Prevost made the transmission fluid dipstick null and void. It appeared I was running way high on Transmission fluid but when I talked to a tech I was told nope, you don’t use the dipstick. You rely on the computer. Turns out I was 2 quarts low. If someone would have told me that I am going to rely on a computer over a mechanical measuring device I would think they were NUTS. Imagine not believing a ruler but believing digital read out? Well now I am wondering about my oil dipstick. I have drove about 4K miles and not used a drop of oil according to the dipstick? Pressure and temp are fine, no warning lights come on or anything. I have filled the reservoir uptop but haven’t added any oil as of yet as it is showing full. Insight anyone? Thanks

Series 60 usually does not use much if any oil in 10k miles, the 8V92 depending on the coach was a differant story….so I am not concerned that the oil level for the engine is where it should be….Yes always check the transmission through the touch pad for oil level…

How do you check trans fluid level with shift pad?

Dan, warm up the coach transmission by driving a short distance. Park it on a level spot, an d press the up/down arrows on the shift pad at the same time.
It will do a count down, and at the end it will flash oL ok. If it is too full or too low it will display that and tell you by how much. The Allison web site or your books will show the various messages and what they mean.

Make sure the high idle is off or it will throw a code for speed to high, put it on low idle
