What do you have there now? Is it the factory paint? How much effort do you want to put into it? For example, my roof was badly sun burned, and many of the rivets seemed like they would leak so i decided a full new coat is needed. I removed everything from roof, fully sanded it down with 80 grit to the aluminum base metal, and coated it. I started the project using Bus Kote with beads mixed in on a small area but i didn’t like how abrasive it was. I felt it might be hard to keep it clean. So i went to Home depot and bought a 5 gallon pale of Henry’s tropicool and coated my entire roof with that. It has been over a year and everything is holding up well, the only negative i have with Henry’s is it is very slippery when wet. If you go up on your roof to wash it as I do, i have to be very careful. Other than that it washed off to a pristine white color.

Hi mike

did you use electric sander with 80 grain sand paper

It took me about 4 days to complete the project. I removed all 3 AC units, Vents, Old satellite dish etc. Once I had all the hardware off, I scraped all the old sealant off with a putty knife, then using an orbital sander, and 80 grit discs I sanded it down. Sanding went pretty quick, my roof was in very bad shape. Next step was to clean the roof, i used simple green and water, blew it off with my leaf blower then let it dry. My roof has movement in between the bars that run from drivers side to passenger side and i could see the rivets moving slightly. I was a little concerned that over time the roof coating might break thru and cause a leak path, so i opted to use Eternabond tap for the seams and rivets. There are many that don’t like Eternabond, I like it and have used it on many of my RV roofs. I used Dicor on the edges of the eternabond, then coated Henrys’s over the top. Henry’s doesn’t stick to Eternabond, so that is exposed to the elements. In the picture attached you can see the eternabond going acroos the bus from left to right over each support beam. Every time I wash my roof it gets nice and white like shown in the picture. The other picture is how bad my sealant was after 30 years.
