We have only had to be towed twice in the last 20 years but they were both handled professionally and safely by the Good Sam service. Of course, it’s not GS doing the towing so making sure GS gives the proper information to the folks doing the tow is most important. In both cases we were taken to the repair facility recommended by the PASS folks. The 2nd one we found a 15 amp plug and the truck driver backed us right into the space so we could keep the fridge running and the batteries up. Can’t say enough good about the 2 drivers.

I’ve had Coachnet for 15 years. Been towed once, locked out with pets inside once, flat repair once. Very professional, knowledgeable people on their phones. I “don’t leave home without it”.

I believe there is an age demarcation with coach-net. I entered my vin into coach net and received a message that my coach was too old.

It seems to me roadside assistance’s primary “value” is getting you connected to a local service/tow company. This had some value last century with limited connectivity and no Internet across the country. But is it still true today?

Couldn’t you just search for 24/7 truck towing or whatever you are looking for when you need them? It would allow to make sure they have the right equipment and experience vs explaining all that to a minimum wage call center employee.

I have had Good Sam for the last 7 years but thankfully never needed to use them. I always wondered if I should just rely on my phone and credit card.

If I need to be towed I’m looking for a huge wrecker service that hauls the big semi’s. In looking at their trucks it looks like most of the big tow trucks have the reach to get under the coach and lift it properly … which is my number #1 concern. I wonder if I should carry a couple of plates to cover the differential ends after the axles are pulled.

My tentative plans if I need to be towed is to call John Hawkins at Miller Industries Towing Equipment and ask him for a referral to one of his customers in the area. Maybe I could just call any heavy towing outfit. If John monitors the Forum he might opine on that. I’ll probably call Jeff or Tom or Jon and ask them to run by what I need to be concerned about to make sure I have everything covered.

But isn’t there an insurance component to Coach-Net and GS? Won’t either or both cover a certain amount of towing at no cost to the customer?

I’d be interested in hearing from anyone how has paid out of pocket for towing and anyone who has had Coach-Net and explain what was covered and what wasn’t covered.

PS: I have AAA RV for the cars, Suburban, and race trailer. I’ve had the Suburban on a rollback three times in fourteen years and the trailer on the stringer twice. Very happy for AAA RV for that.

We too had Gs for several years. One “opportunity” to use

them w ok service level. Rates kept going up and now changed

to the fmca affiliated service. Better rates but have not used them yet

Tom, it’s a ‘69 I believe. After that, we bought Brockway 360’s & 361’s with Super 250 Cummins (927 CI) in them. We used to laugh that when the 318 that just passed us had to pull over with a blown turbo, we’d just drive on by. No turbos here!!. The guys that drove from down south back then used to call our fleet “ Yankee Macks”. We owned a fleet of 9…

Nice… Ah th old days, 318 was a double breasted Yamaha. The early Brockways if I remember right had wooden dash’s.

Bernie probably never saw one of those in CA, I’m sure there would have been a law prohibiting the use of a tree in a vehicle.

Ron mentioned age discrimination from Coach Net , how old a coach? Have had them for 9 years on the 1991 XL and this summer driving my new ford F250 4X4, had a flat and no jack in truck. Ford cutting corners I guess. Over in Austin Tx. about 75 miles West of me and called Coach Net. They came out changed flat and away. Easy Peasy. Never have had to use them for Coach. Funny thing is truck in new and called Ford and they said they would be there in an hour or 2. Called Coach Net and they (local towing company) were there in 20 minutes.

Every time I see Brockways and Autocars I immediately think of the highly polished garbage and dump trucks that apparently were owned by mobster controlled companies in the NYC area when I was a kid.

I signed up with Good Sam but will not be renewing. It seems to me that there a quite a lot of our forum members that are not satisfied with GS. I have made one call to them in three years to get a jump and was told they cannot jump a Prevost. Tm
