Since everything you read on the internet is true, then the tires are likely to be a great purchase.

Having made the above smart assed remark I will state that way back when another member and I bought and installed Double Coin tires on our coaches. They were half the prices of Michelins at the time, and my thinking was if I got half the life in years from the tires I broke even and any time after that was a savings.

As it turned out Double Coin was a Chinese tire and one of the owners of the company was Michelin. The tires rode well and wore well and I had no issues with them.

So despite their being a strong preference for Michelin tires I think the risk might be worth it. I would caution you however to make sure you are very careful in your pre-trip tire inspections, you always maintain the correct tire pressures and you adhere to the speed limit rating for the tires. If not your status as a tire test pilot might not have the results you think you should get.

Forgot to mention with all the cash saved on tires a set of “Centramatic” full time wheel balancers are probably in his future.

One of the Road Warrior centers is in Houston where I am. Called them this morning. They are a warehouse operation, no tire mounting available. But the price of each tire includes shipping to where you are. If in Houston, they will put them in your truck bed if you wish to pick them up.

The tires are made in China with quality control verified by the folks in the USA similar to Double Coin.

My tire dealer can sell me my size tire 295 75R 22.5 installed on my coach for less money than their tire. My current tire made by Uniroyal were less than their tire. They sell most brands including Michelin. Price quoted for tires are down the road, no extra fees.

But these installed tire deals are in the greater Houston area in Sealy, TX, at exit 723 on I-10. So if not nearby, Road Warrior might just be something to consider.

When we bought our coach it had Double Coins on the drive axle and tags and Toyo’s on steer and just replaced the Double Coins on the drive axle because they were almost 10 years old and put Toyo’s on. Tags are 2 year old Double Coin tires look and seem good so their staying for a few more years.

Thanks, Jon! Actually, I am considering Chinese made Road Warriors based, not only on the low price, but also because I remembered your years of positive experience with Double Coins!

We’re down at our Florida home, near Disney World, right now and I’m trying to get new rubber on before we head to our Woodstock, GA home on Dec. 7th to spend the Christmas holidays with our kids and grandkids.

Thanks, Rudy! We lived in Sugar Land, TX for 11 years and loved it!

We now split our year between our homes in Woodstock, GA (30 miles north of downtown Atlanta) and Clermont, FL (6.5 miles from Walt Disney World) – so Road Warrior’s free freight from Houston is attractive.

Sorry to disappoint you Al, but if Michael is trying to save money Centramatics are an economically poor option. I used Equal until I had Centramatics on my current coach and Equal not ony worked great, unlike the majority of opinions here my tires were balanced and trouble free.

The complaint about Equal was valve stem leaks and I never had an issue. If Pressure Pro is used that objection goes away completely because the valve stem is held open by the sensor. At $10 per wheel for the life of the tire Equal is way cheaper than Centramatics until you go through about 5 sets of tires, the they are more economical.

After fairly extensive shopping, I ended up deciding on 8 Goodyear Marathon 315/80R22.5’s from ABC Companies in Winter Garden for a “drive out” price of $4,300 including mounting, spin balancing, and installation.

I may have been able to save a few more bucks by ordering Chinese tires and finding a local jobber to install them, but ABC is 16 miles from my Clermont, FL house, Goodyear is Van Hool’s OEM tire, and the deal is “no muss, no fuss”. ABC is installing our tires on Monday, 12/3!

Jon, we all realize how important your use of a outdated Equal balancing process is to you.

Others have move up the tech chain to a much more reliable product.

Centramatic is a long time advertiser on PC.

I also had good luck with Equal and have no problems in using it again. I also have friends that still have rotary phones and pull start mowers.

We will have to agree to disagree Al. Keep in mind my response was in the context of Michael’s concern about costs and in that respect Equal does exactly the same job for a lot less money.

The balancers like Centramatics (great company BTW) are not without failures. I had one fail due to internal clumping of the media. How many people that do not pull their own wheels or do that type work on their coach would have removed the balancer, rotated it, and not realized instead of hearing the media flow they had a problem. I can see a lot of people wondering why they had a tire imbalance from their high tech balancer.

Michael, go to your room and quit trying to make trouble.
