Andy and I just visited Yosemite with our 45’ XL towing our Jeep. We stayed at Yosemite Lakes RV Park and it was adequate. Nothing fancy about it though. There are a limited number of 50 amp sites and they are reserved for Thousand Trail members. Also, all sites are first come first serve.

To get to Yosemite Lakes we took CA Hwy 120 from southeast of Stockton eastward into the park and it was very, very tight on a 8 – 10 mile stretch just before Groveland…. especially problematic when there was oncoming traffic and the oncoming vehicle was large. Needless to say, we would not take our Prevost on that stretch of road again. It is on the CA approved list for 45’ MHs but in my opinion it should not be. At the end of our visit we opted to travel east through the park on Tioga Road (that’s what 120 is called inside the park) and over Tioga Pass (9950’). That route is quite a bit longer than the other side and the roads are still narrow, but the turns were not as tight so much more manageable. We still feel this was a better route. Personally, if we visit Yosemite again we will park the bus and take our toad and rent a hotel room in the park, especially since we were driving over an hour each time we went into the park anyway.

BTW, the drive down Owen Valley along CA Hwy 395 is spectacular.

Hi, this is off topic but I was wondering approximately what it costs to go from Sidney to Tsawwassen on the ferry, 40 ft with toad and two people.

I can’t advise you for your entire route to Zion, but if you travel down to Portland Oregon make your way to Highway 26 which travels east/west across Oregon. In my opinion it is one of the most scenic Highways in the USA. It is generally quiet and single lane for most of its length. I stayed in Redmond Oregon for the first leg and then onto Boise Idaho the second night.

PS I think I saw your coach last year at Prevost Richmond…getting the usual work.

Thanks Allan! Yes we will be heading down to Portland and east from there. I loves the dalles area and it truly was a beautiful way to choose to go. We are hitting Redmond on the return, so any campsite suggestions are welcome!

The coach must have a twin as we haven’t been to prevost Langley/Richmond with our bus yet… sure have ordered a lot of parts from there though! If you’re ever on the island please reach out!

We stayed at the fair grounds in Redmond which is more than adequate with full services available. Also stayed at the KOA which is also fine. Shoot me an email by pressing on my nick name above….upper right hand corner. I would love to have your email just in case I have to talk to you about bus stuff…..just nice to have someone geographically close by. If your in Langley drop by with your coach. We have 50 amp service available. Cheers….

not a problem. We did this last year when we spent considerable time in several places in Utah as well as Idaho. Mind you, we are 70 feet long. 45ft XLII and 25ft stacker. NO problem at all. We were able to pull in and out of all campgrounds and did not have to unhook. So if we can do it, so you can you. We always try to stay off of Interstate highways and prefer taking the scenic country roads wherever we go. Driving 40/45 MPH is a relaxing way to drive and to look out through the windshield to admire your surroundings.

you are driving a 40 footer. I would not worry at all about road conditions. You will be fine. Bryce is beautiful and so is Zion. We spent 3-4 weeks in each place and did not run out of things to do.
