  • Road America – Wisconsin

Looking to go to a Road America event in Wisconsin in September. The camp sites are listed as 20 x 40. Has anyone stayed there or is there somewhere nearby that you would recommend that can accommodate a 45 foot H? Thanks for any info you may have to share.

VSCDA event? Do you have friends who are racing?

Where are you looking at parking? There are many number of locations for motorhomes. Most dry camping sites have quite a bit of room. Some of the 50amp sites might be a little tight for a 45 (like in the woods between the braking area into T5 and the main road through the main paddock), others like in the “upper paddock” should be able to accomodate a 45. There appears to be some new 50amp sites between the S/F finish line on the outside of the track and T1, I saw those at a distance a few weeks ago and couldn’t tell how long they are.

I highlly recommend staying at the track. While I’ve never been in the campgrounds close by Road America, my perception is that they are older facilities and might not accomodate a 45′ coach very well.

I’ll ask track management which ones will fit a 45 foot coach. Stay tuned.

    Dick,

Thanks for the response. No one racing. My son and his father-in-law are fans. They live in Chicago and go to various Road America events. Since I am going to be coming to see him in Chicago they suggested meeting at Road America for the event. Want to make sure I book an adequate site. Would prefer 50 amp but am not opposed to dry camp on Gen for the weekend. I’ll wait to hear if you get any info. Thanks!!

Been going to Road America since 1972. Was just there three days ago in the 911. As I was walking through the Rv sights between start/finish and outside turn one I flipped up the cover on the shore power post to find two 50 amp hookups. On their website you will find a map that shows the locations for rv parking, then just call them with any questions.

The only time I took the bus up there was for club drivers schools and always dry camped in the paddock. But Plymouth Rock campground is across the street from the main entrance, and have previously inquired with them about fitting in. They said they can accommodate in the back of there campground. But again, call them yourself. Good luck.

Racing started there in the mid 1950’s on the streets of Elkhart Lake. They have come along way the past 60 years.
