I have seen this before, and you need to look at all the nuts on your air bags….When using the wrong nuts on the air bags they back off…I would almost bet you have other bags missing one nut or the nuts loose…

I know of another mobil service dude that used to not put any nuts on the air bags and this is an example of what can happen when short cuts are taken. Can’t name the mobil service, don’t ask on the forum.

If Prevost has had issues with bottom nuts coming loose they are keeping it a secret or this became known after I replaced my air bags about 45 days ago. There was no instructions with the air bags to use any kind of locking means on the nuts.

I have replaced air bags on three different models of Prevost. The first and second coaches came with a large top nut to go on the threaded fitting into which air is supplied to the air bag, plus nuts for the remaining 3 threaded lugs, one of which was a fine threaded 1/2 inch nut, with the others being conventional 1/2-13 threads.

On the recent new air bags I got nothing. No large top threaded nut, and none was supplied when the coach was built. The remainder of the nuts were conventional 1/2-13. No lock nuts, no lock washers, nothing to indicate they had used Loc-tite. I replaced my air bags and the only thing I did was use new nuts. I think I used lock washers, but cannot remember. Bottom line is I am going to recheck and add them or use a lock nut.

I seriously doubt the nuts came loose however since I cannot ever remember the use of lock washers or lock nuts on any of my coaches and in every single case I had to pull pretty hard to break the nuts loose.

I’m glad it all worked out. It’s a little unsettling that you can’t trust the professionals to do their job, and especially something that is possibly a safety issue.

As its been stated here before, we who are able should spend time under the bus checking components for wear, leaks, or anything that may be coming loose. I realize not everyone can do this, there are truck shops that will let you rent time to pull your coach over a pit in order to inspect it.

This site is truly phenomenal, the way people come together to help someone solve their problems and as in Cheeef’s case a member comes to the rescue with parts or a helping hand. Also, there is a lot of humor that comes along with it.
