  • Riber Comb-o-matic washer/dryer

Posted by Chad on July 22, 2019 at 6:28 pm

I have one in my 1984 Liberty, 120v and vented. It looks like it was installed in the original conversion. My research says it was built in Italy, and they built similar models under other brands in Europe. Just curious if anyone has any experience with these units.

From what I have seen converters initially installed combo washer / dryer units in coaches. I think the brand you have was followed with a Splendide brand.

When coaches went to 45 feet most installations were apartment size individual units, mostly because the combo units took an excessive amount of cycle time, mostly to get clothes dry.

We did a happy dance when we got our first coach with separate units not only because of better performance, but because I got sick of repairing the Splendide we had.

Thanks, Jon. Your summary pretty well matches what I have learned. Proving that you can find absolutely anything on the internet, I came across a forum for washing machine aficionados. They’re mostly in Europe. Here’s the thread I posted, which resulted in the sharing of some cool history of these Italian-built combo units:

By the way, I was having a problem with the drum refusing to tumble during the dry cycle, although it spun just fine during the wash cycle. I assumed there was more imbalance to overcome with wet clothes climbing the side of the drum as it started to spin, versus the clothes floating in water during the wash cycle. I popped in a new run capacitor, and it is running like new. It dries a full load in about 45 minutes.
