Retarder
Posted by neal on December 22, 2016 at 11:04 amHas anyone had the accumulator rebuilt or replaced and if so where was it done? Retarder downshifts but does not really hold back. Was told the accumulator is leaking and needs rebuilt or replaced, about $4000?

Are you guys talking about the intercooler? If so there is a huge risk of serious damage if the coach is even moved or run because coolant and transynd can be mixed and end up in the cooling system and transmission.

No, not the intercooler. That was already replaced. It’s the accumulator that is part of the transmission retarder

The accumulater acts as a oil reservoir for your retarder. What happened? Who is telling you 4k?
That’s wrong.
I found one online for 399 dollars, have to check if it’s right but it’s for an Allison trans.

Yeah, I agree with Bernie. It is not inside the transmission and is not that hard to get to. Should not be anywhere close to $40000
