  • Replacing Trace inverter

Posted by David on September 30, 2021 at 12:27 pm

    Hello,

I have purchased and need to install a replacement inverter for my Trace 4024 Mc2. Does anyone know the proper procedure to shut down things that need to be completed to exchange the inverter.

    Thanks

    Unplug unit from AC

    Turn OFF inverters

Switch Battery Disconnect OFF – if there is not a disconnect switch remove ground cable between inverters and batteries First, then disconnect the positive.

Verify there is no AC at inverter connections, IN or OUT on the 110 lines before disconnecting.

After install of the new ones, connect Ground cable last. If there is not a disconnect switch and it is direct connect, you may get a small spark/arc when touching the ground cable to the post, This is caused by loading the capacitors in the inverters.

I want to replace my two 28 year old Heart 2800 12 volt Inverters, I noticed the Magnums are 4-5 months out on delivery. Anyone have a source for Magnum MS2812? or one just as good? I hear the Victrons are good but bigger than the Magnums.

I am going with the Victron MultiPlus 3000 Inverter. Install Pictures coming soon.

    Watching this thread.

I have a single Xantrex SW3012. Nothing wrong with it, but I would like to relocate it and add a second one.

However, I am considering updating/modernizing to a Victron set up with two inverter/chargers/

I have done a lot of research over the past week regarding inverters, I also spoke with Annete Hedblom, Sales rep for Magnum. They do have an issue with meeting the current deliveries, but are working as hard as they can. Chip shortages are also an issue adding to their struggles. She mentioned new orders might be out as far as the end of Q1 2022. This prompted me to look around, and i think the Victor is a good option for me to rethink my Battery and solar management.
