I’m a DIYer, about 2 yrs ago, I paid Prevost $1500 for the 8 bags for my bus.

Prevost puts them on sale occasionally for 25% off what I paid. I wasn’t patient or lucky enough to catch that deal 🙁

Just replaced all air bags in October at Prevost Houston for $2,800 total including bags and labor. Service and attention to detail were first class as highly recommend.

David, been communicating with Prevost parts in Illinois and service techs concerning the correct part numbers for the front and tag bags since Prevost Nashville quoted different part numbers. Still waiting on service tech to verify. Beware, they could put wrong bags on front since this discrepancy has been on going issue. Might want to search archives here.

630151 (Front & Tag) is not the mae west bags (630259) from my understanding. 630259 are taller according to archives here. Prevost was contacted about this by our members to correct this, but they are still confused! Illinois Prevost said frt = 630151, drive =630260 & tag= 630259 for my Vin #. Tech says the only way to know is to look on top of bag after removal to see model #. Great and what if I`m parked beside of road and service mechanic brings wrong bag or in a prevost facility changing bags and they don`t have the correct one in stock ! Poor Prevost efficiency !!

Received reply from Rick (Prevost Indiana Area Service Rep.) For my VIN# on 2002 XLII front=630151, drive=630260 & tag=630259. Front is different than tag to eliminate issues when towing a trailer he says.

Total parts quote from Nashville Prevost $1746.

Did some research for reference. 630151 = 1R12 377 top plate 9”, bottom plate 10.1”, height collapsed 9.7”, extended 19.6”

630260 = 630105 = 1R11 243 top plate 9”, bottom plate 10”, height collapsed 8.1”, extended 18.3”

630259 = 630126 = 630102 = 630129 = 1R11 244 = 1R11 097 top plate 9”, bottom plate 10.12”, height collapsed 8.1”, extended 22.1”

Most questions are with the steer axle. We can see that 630259 has a greater stroke than 630151 which Prevost recommends. But the diameter of the bellows of 630151 is one inch greater than 630259. So the question remains: will a fatter or a longer stroke bellows do the better job of raising the front to full height?

The diameter of the air spring determines its lifting ability. With steer axles requiring the greatest lift capacity per air bag that is why they are going to have the greater diameter.

Making sure the air bags is correct is matching dimensions, but of equal or even greater importance is insuring the lower threaded studs, and the upper fittings are spaced and oriented correctly. I have gotten air bags that were incorrect because the lower fittings and the upper ones were oriented incorrectly by 90 degrees or they were spaced incorrectly. That is why if someone tries to shop air bags that it is critical that all dimensions and fitting positions are correct.

Good point Jon. All the bags I referenced have bottom studs the same, 4.12” apart. All have top fittings the same 4.76” apart with the combination stud/air fitting being 3/4”-16 and 1/4” NPTF. All have the top fittings oriented 90 degrees from the bottom studs except one. 630151 = 1R12 377 has the top fittings and bottom studs parallel to each other. So none of the drive or tag bags could be put onto the steer axle. That being said, all the Prevost part numbers that I matched to Goodyear part numbers are good.

Looking at my parts manual – 630151 is used on the steer axle. And starting with vin 2-7856, (mine is 3-7954) the tag also uses 630151.

Up to vin 2-7855 the tag uses 630126, not the same as steer.
