  • Replacement Toilet Recommendation

Posted by Tim on September 13, 2019 at 10:45 am

We want/need a replacement toilet for our coach. We really want to get one that is as good of quality as possible, within reason and we really don’t want to repair the Microphor…again. In researching replacement toilets here, the “Tecma Silence Plus” name comes up often. We would really like to have the Tecma Silence plus installed (hopefully Jeff’s crew will do the install) in our coach…but it looks like it may not even be possible looking at the configuration of our water closet floor and the the location of the originally installed toilet flange.

The originally installed toilet was a Microphor electric flush that empties straight down into the holding tank. It appears to us that the Tecma Silence Plus motor is in the way of a favorable placement in our water closet. I don’t know for sure, but it looks like it in the documentation.

If the Tecma Silence Plus won’t work any suggestions for an alternative.

I’ve included some pictures of the floor and toilet flange in our coach for reference.

    Thanks

I just did this in June at Jeff’s, bye bye Microphor, the Tecma Science 2 Plus is the only way to go. Mine was rear discharge so all work out well. They make so many different types, surely a direct drop is available that will be close to your foot print. Jeff can likely solve your problem. I’m sure you’ve searched the various models, but here’s the selection: Tecma

Been thinking about my Electric Microphor and it has been working for years. It’s been in this coach for 26 or 7 years and I never have had a problem other than replacing 1 or 2 flapper seals in almost 10 years I’ve owned it. Some of these replacements like the Tecma Plus 2 model have all sorts of stuff like the “amazing turbine pump that macerates and pushes things”. Time will tell how these hold out. Would imagine these would keep the tank odors from coming back into coach as it is a direct seal as mine is open to tank on flush. Wonder if the make a simple design like the Microphor? Straight down into tank.

We put a lot of effort and money into saving our old Head Hunter toilet. We finally gave up, replaced it with a Tecma, I see one post called it Silence 2, and in another post it is called a Science 2, I’ll go along with the Science, not so much the Silence, I was looking through our paper work to see what we have, but haven’t found it yet, it was installed in March of 2017.

A couple things with ours; it is not what I would call quiet, however it works very well. On ours there is a water level adjustment on the back of the flush control box, remove 2 screws and the box comes out and you can adjust the amount of water used per flush, this toilet will use very little per flush to a crazy amount.

If we’re dry camping I will turn it way down to conserve as much water as possible, and only turn it up when necessary, there’s a fair amount of cord to the box so if dry camping you can keep it out for handy adjustment, I then went a step further and used velcro to hold the box in eliminating the screws and making adjustments easier.

It’s been a very good toilet, no odors, no problems.
