  • Replacement of caliper pin dust covers-front axle

Posted by AL on April 26, 2014 at 4:07 pm

While doing routine service I noticed the rubber bellows had split open on caliper pin linkage back side of both front wheels. The rubber bellows protects the slide pins from dirt and dust. If this is left open to the elements at some point a caliper would need removal for rebuilding.

Prevost parts no longer packages bellows as a seperate item. The kit available is around $70.00 to get a bellows worth probably no more then $6-8.00. The kits were on sale at this time for $55.00 each side.

With the aid of special pliers ($15.99) made espicially for CV joint clamps both belows were replaced.

Both bellows were OK 6000 miles ago.

section on clamp just enough for seal bellows to slide pin

housing. Maybe no more then 1/8 inch.

Nice job Mr. Napa… I have those pliers in stock, fuel/oil line clamps from the Harley days.

    Reference: 2006 yr model H3-45 Chassis w/ 98K miles

I was searching for this very topic as noticed at least one of my rubber boots is missing (no idea for how long) and others appear as in Al’s photos.

This bus is new-to-us and we have driven it approximately 7,000 miles since we purchased it… Here is my question please…

How would I know if ONLY replacing the rubber boots would be a permanent fix or whether or not I would simply be covering up a problem – i.e., I need to install the complete pin replacement kit?

I am a DIY owner, but am uncertain of the procedure for the entire kit and whether or not I still have the umphf to be able to handle tire removal, etc.

THANK YOU and Experience and/or Suggestions appreciated

Jeff, you can access the complete Knorr-Bremse (Bendix) shop manual for your brakes on the Prevost web site. Prevost links to just about every single component technical manual. I don’t have the time to do the digging now, but if you are patient and willing you should have no trouble negotiating the Prevost site to access all manuals.

I am still amazed at how much Prevost provides on line for those of us willing to look.

I use their on line diagrams, manuals, and access to component suppliers manuals all the time and rarely will I not be able to find a needed piece of information.

I never copy or retain anything as long as i have wifi and my laptop.
