I’ve spent more time shopping mini splits than I care to admit. I picked up a 12k Mr. Cool heat pump a few years ago to use on the bus, but eventually installed that in my shop after I decided to gut the bus. Good thing, because I failed to notice that it was 240v. It works great though. I have an 18k AirCon heat pump mini split arriving tomorrow to install in my apartment, and am going to need one more in that space. I’m thinking about trying one of the floor/ceiling flexible mount units in that application. That’s just to get my lines to penetrate the wall higher than a wall-mount, allowing me to run over the top of a window.
I don’t know if I mentioned it on PC, but I also modified a Midea U-shaped window unit to be a split system, and am going to try that in the bedroom of the bus with the outdoor unit behind the curb side engine door. No heat function though, so I’ll probably go with electric toe kick heaters under the bed. That’s what Liberty did, and I may just reuse those. I really do enjoy tinkering and learning new things!

Might as well provide some updates. Two of my biggest challenges were:
1. Finding a shower base that was big enough and had a good drain placement. That was a big headache because I really needed a corner drain to make it work with my layout (i.e. not hitting something with the hole in the floor). None of the single threshold bases (alcove) had corner drains, and the neo-angle or round corner showers were bad for my layout. I settled on a two threshold 32″ x 32″ base, and will just have to carefully waterproof one of the curbs.
2. I really wanted a full-size refrigerator and freezer. With the low ceilings on my bus, there was no way to get one on board. I might get a counter-depth sans-door through the bus door, but geometry says a corner would hit the ceiling before I could stand it upright. Same for going though a windshield. The diagonal dimension is just too tall to stand it upright. I ended up buying two of these convertible units from Costco last month. They’re already on board. I was concerned about not being able to find an exact replacement if one fails, so I bought two extras to use as freezers in the garage. So far they seem really nice. I removed the pin that the bus door latch grabs to give me a little more room when moving them on board. I must have reinstalled it well, because now my door closes better!

</div>That’s why you take out one windshield and bring the fridge in that way.

Can’t do it with a full-height unit in my bus, Bill. It will hit the ceiling no matter how you tip it up from horizontal. I don’t know when the XL went to higher ceilings, but mine are about 75″ at the peak right now without a finished floor or ceiling. These two units together are a little wide, but it’s worth it to me to gain the space.
