I agree with Peter, call Jeff and ask. But I also would think that it would be quite a job to do, and likely very expensive. You may be better off passing on that bus and looking for something else in my opinion.

Reese: What do you think drives the steep steps? Is the coach an H or XL? Do you think the converter or a previous owner modified the steps from what Prevost put in?

Nice job–thanks for pic as I haven’t redone mine yet. I have the same material at shop and this gave me a idea! To original poster. XL or H might be differant. If you add step in same place the width of the step will be dereased. Not good in most cases. Bob

Let us know more details… hard to quite understand exactly what you mean? Are the current steps not the originals or are they worn out? XL or H???

When you decrease the rise, you increase the run. Straight stairs with a lower rise would land you in the drivers area.

You can go up to an intermediate landing and turn the corner into the salon and continue on up stairs, but using salon floor space. One does what is important for them. A big salon floor is not much good if you can not enter it.

Where there are enough $$ there is a way.

I appreciate the responses to my question about entry stairs. The coach in question is a Class A. The dealer suggested taking out the old stairs and building new stairs with the goal of reducing the height between each stair. Reducing the height of each stair will reduce the stress on my wife’s knees.

My concern is the stability of these new stairs long term after they are installed. I was curious if any of the members of this group had the same concern

The run versus rise situation dictates where a set os steps starts and ends. The posts above are correct.

If it is difficult to negotiate a set of steps a better approach might be the use os a well placed, sturdy handrail that can be used to help pull a person with weak knees uop the steps.

On your Type A you are going to be limited by the frame under top landing. to just decrease hight with loosing width /or depth of stairs would be dangerous. If there is room above frame to add extra 8 inch step it will go into your motorhome that much further.. Basic thought if you reduce height something has to give somewhere like extra step. My personal opinion have a model set up for same area before you cut and start building.. I think you will find that your steps are higher and narrow than the steps we have in Prevost XL or H. FWIW Bob Hand rail might be your best option like Jon said.
