Refigerator use when coach is off the road
What do you do with your refrigerator when you are at home for an extended period of time?
Do you leave it powered or do you turn it off .
If you turn off what time frame do you use for the time to leave running or to turn off for next trip?
Have heard it is better to leave running and never turn off.

Always leave it on as long as I have power. Power use is minimal when plugged in shore

It’s a residential fridge and stays running non stop.

For 9+ yrs, our refrigerator/freezer has stayed off until a day or two before a trip. Bus is always keep at home with shore power available.
The pluses are: 1) Our utility bill is less; b) the bus transfer switch will last more yrs; c) the inverter will last more yrs.

If you are on shore power why would you need an inverter?

Hey Don, kinda disagree as the transfer switch and inverter wouldn’t have an impact. Definitely it’ll use less electricity but we’re talking a few bucks, you can look up the energy guide and for a fridge it’s based on 24/7/365 use. Mines $42 per year. Leaving a fridge running not only keeps it nice and cold all the time but it also helps prevent smells, mold/bacteria growth, and more importantly is its designed to be on all the time so the compressor and other components should last longer, including the seals.
This is one of the reasons I went with Victron inverter as they have a transfer switch built in and UPS so my fridge will never turn off even when switching from genny or shore or battery. I even put a temp sensor and have it email me if the Temps get to hot/cold and logs it. Just so we don’t risk eating bad food

We’ve been doing what we do with our Prevost for 9+ yrs and no issues. We leave the frig/freezer clean, doors open, so no mold, stink, etc. We had another all electric mh w/residential frig before our Prevost and no problem with it either.To run the frig when not in use would require the bus to be plugged into shore (transfer switch hot) and the #1 inverter ($2k MagnumEnergy) on. Neither of these devices last forever. And neither are 100% efficient, so your annual energy use $ # is not accurate.Again, I see no reason to leave ours on. -
Captain, on my Country Coach, whether plugged into shore power or Running the generator, I have the option to turn the inverters off and still run all the AC loads. I only really use the inverters when boondocking or running down the freeway and the Gen is off. My Fridge uses about 40 watts of power when supplied AC, so yes i agree very inexpensive to leave running for my configuration also.

I was told by a appliance tech to turn it off Especially when it’s empty, It’s sits there with doors cracked open 90 percent of it’s life 100 degrees down to 30 degrees save the wear and tear
