I’ve been told too its not good to turn off a refrigerator. Whether its an old wives tale, a rumor started by the power company, or a fact I don’t know.

Having a Liberty the vintage as ours, I presume you have Vitricor surfaces on the custom cabinetry. I’ve been told (by Jon W … so its a fact) that temperature extremes are the enemy of Vitricor. So I have the Cruise-Airs set at 82 degrees in the summer and try to keep the interior temp above 45 in the winter. Obviously keep an interior temp of 82 in Lake Havasu in the summer could get a little expensive for you.

Keeping the door of the refrigerator closed dramatically reduces the load on the refrigerator cooling system.

When you upgraded to the new refrigerator did you ditch the modified sine wave inverters for the more modern, state of the industry full sine wave inverters? I’m also told (by Jon W and others who should know) that the newer refrigerators like the FSW electricity better than the old MSW juice.

Isn’t it amazing how long that old Amana refrigerator lasted? Going down the road bouncing around, etc.

The vitricor is holding up ok except for one piece with an extreme curve. Oddly enough, my previous coach was an oak Marathon and held up fine; I was surprised. The coach is stored indoors, however, so it is not exposed to sun and I imagine, this would reduce temerature variations.

My inverters were upgraded to Outback’s years ago.

I have zero opinion regarding the plus or minus of keeping a refrigerator running or not. But I am certain the coach interior is going to suffer badly if it is allowed to get excessively hot.

I am not talking about an interior that may be in the nineties, but one that sees temps above that. Contact adhesive is used to bond a laminate to the wood core (or foam). When a laminate has to be removed heat is applied and the contact adhesive releases the bond.

I don’t know at what temp that happens or how long or how often it has to happen, but I do know we could remove the entire surface of a laminated plastic desktop just by playing an electric heat gun across the surface and once we lifted an edge we just worked the gun along the section still adhering and in very little time the entire desktop laminate was removed.

If a coach has had that issue it might be possible to re-adhere the vitricor or laminated plastic but it will never be perfect.

My vote would be for on. I was having issues with my bay refer and after several repairs the repair guy who does everything at our house said to stop turning it off… Once we did that we haven’t had any issues… He said he has seen it several times… where stuff fails after turning it off.. .something about condensation or moisture or whatever… So our new process is to empty them of anything perishable and turn them down but everything stays on.

The perishables in my outside refrigerator are in cans and since I do not want them to age out I am forced to drink them. I try to drink them up just in case the refrigerator quits. Never can be too careful.

At 22.5 years I stopped turning off Amana and started leaving her on. She is still running now at 24.5 years. Our house ones are 30 and 35 years running.

Need to figure out how to carry a spare windshield for when it’s my turn. Tried under bed but no.

My right w/s has been cracked from top to bottom for about 5 years. Everbody wanted to replace it but I told them the refer would go out as soon as the w/s was replaced! LOL. Finally with the new refer, I got a new w/s. Really seems funny looking over and seeing no crack.
