  • Recoil fresh water hose

Posted by Bill on February 23, 2022 at 6:29 pm

The fresh water hose is not fully retracting into the spring loaded coil. I can reach inside the bay and turn the metal hose housing and get the hose to fully retract, but without doing this there is still about 6 feet of hose that will not go back inside the coach. I have had to leave the hose inside the coach and hook up and exterior hose to ensure I will be able to leave when it’s time to go. Anyone have a suggestion to make it work again or what’s required to start again from scratch?

    Bill:

I suspect the spring in the unit is getting weak. Try to manually rap the hose around the spool a couple of times while it is in as far in as it wants to go. This should give you more spring tension on the recoil the next time you retract it.

Interesting, thanks. I will have to remove the stop to get the hose to go past its intended destination. You think wrapping the hose around the housing will somehow make the spring springier? I don’t understand how the unit is setup so I am interested to hear what I would be doing when I do this.

    Thanks!

    Bill:

You are correct, the stopper will have to be removed and you will need to pull the hose out 4-6 ft before starting.

Best explanation I can come up with is:

Remember the old lawn mowers where you had to wrap the pull cord around the top then pull to start? What your doing with the hose reel is wrapping the hose around a few more turns loading the spring a bit tighter when the hose is pulled out.

    Anyone have a better explanation?

Remember there is energy in that spring, be careful, or a trip to the emergency room .the reel can come around extremely fast.

Thanks. I’ll give it a try. There’s certainly lots of spring in the spring when pulling out, just lost that lovin’ feeling for the last 5 feet.
