  • Recessed light fixture trim rings

Posted by Thomson on November 9, 2016 at 11:51 am

I am replacing the bulbs in a bunch of these fixtures with LEDs. In the process, I broke a couple of the trim rings trying to get them off. I can’t find any source for replacement rings. Has anybody found them?

    Thanks,

    Thom

Have not tried it yet, the only thought I’ve had is to find a place with a 3D printer and see if its possible to copy then paint with wanted color???

Have best luck to heat the ring with a hair dryer and then remove the ring.

You can make this tool……. it will prevent “any” broken trim rings. Use a dry wall screw and some glue to attach the hand hold. Let it dry over night.

Shelf sponge is held on by using water base glue very light coat. You need the compression of the sponge to grip the trim ring. , Let glue dry over night.

Thanks for the suggestions Al and Per. I already have the gloves, so I will try them first.

Thom, I’d really be curious about what the underside of the ring looks like, if you could post a photo it’d be great. I’m guessing there are tabs? Does it matter whether the twist is clockwise or counter-clockwise?

    For removal
of tight, sticking light rings, I would recommend the Tom Chilcote Patented,
easy, handy dandy, as seen on TV, super duper light ring remover for only
$19.95 with FREE, yes, FREE shipping. And if you act now, you will receive,
absolutely FREE, a second Super Handy Dandy light ring remover with separate handling
    charges.

    I used a
3-1/2 inch clamp, just don’t go crazy tightening them. Just enough to hold and another half turn.

    Note 3 small
tabs. Righty – Tighty, Lefty – Loosy

Fred, high marks on the excellent photography and extra marks on the sales pitch. Amazingly, I already have in stock the very same Handy Dandy, I can’t believe my good fortune! Thanks!
