  • rebuilding AD2 Air Dryer?

Posted by Richard on November 30, 2025 at 1:30 pm

I have completely removed my AD2 dryer as well as taken the end plate off to get to the desiccant filter cartridge. At this point, I am looking at the center bolt, but I am hesitent to remove it because I read of 75lb spring pressure somewhere and can’t verify where it is or how to disassemble it. I am reading the service manual, but I am confused of that sections instruction with “use extreme caution” Then it says the cartridge should come out with the end cap? HOW? I have also read posts regarding updating to the AD9 but I can’t find any conversion information or guidance. I would consider that option if I could find information to digest since ultimately, the AD2 is obsolete now, and the kit is close to the price of the AD9?? Any feedback and advice would be greatly appreciated, especially getting me safely past the final disassembly of the AD2 filter section.

The AD2 is an excellent air dryer. I have serviced mine a couple times. The spring is strong but manageable.

    Thanks Mike,

I finally got the filter out and I am cleaning everything up for the install.

Its been a little while, but I finally received the parts for the dryer, rebuilt it, and installed. I replaced a couple of the airlines for further prevention measures since I didn’t want to go through what it took to get under there anytime soon. As soon as I cranked the bus, I started smiling as it was building air again.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate help..
