I replaced mine with a Whelen 700 series programmable LED. It strobes 3 times quickly before going on full. Quite an attention getter. Very similar in size to the old Bosch.

Jackson: Was the swap easy to do? Identical fit?

It was a simple swap. The Whelen was slightly larger, but not a big deal. I’ll take some photos and post them. I also have converted my clearance lights, cargo lights, tail/turns and side lights to LED. Makes a big difference in the appearance.

    Jackson,

I did the exchange with the Wheelen and get only one flash? How did you set the three? It is a great light.

    Thanks,

    Pres

Our bus is the same vintage as yours, any chance you could share part numbers for the clearence lights you purchased from Whelen?

    Thanks!

    David…

The man who knows all about this stuff is Gil Johnson… he is probably reading this note…

I did not acquire clearance lights… I acquired a stop light… if that is what you are seeking to replace, here is my information and experience with the stop light.

I purchased a Whelen 70 BTT stop light plus the chrome bisel… it is in reality an ambulance light with probably 50 LEDs in it… it is bright. It runs about $100 plus or minus… When installing, after it is in place, talk to someone about how this is to be done correctly but a 12V source is to put in contact with one of the wires (Neg or positive and I do not know which one at the moment) and held there until it flashes 4 times and then goes on permanently. The brake remains pressed down for a few seconds. After that, the brake gets reapplied, I believe again. I could only get one flash and then permanent on… I simply did not do it correctly.

Nonetheless, it is a super substitute for the brake light on the coach.

Whelen is a provider of all types of emergency lights as you will see on the site.

I wish I could be more accurate as to how the connection works. I will endeavor to work on mine again and let you know.

I also bought Gil’s rear brake and tail light system, which are great. I just ordered the Whelen light that Pres talked about. It should show up tomorrow and as soon as it’s installed I will get some pictures of it and post them.
