Rear bumper parts
So, after explaining to my bride that I didn’t need help backing up as it was pretty clear back there and the camera view was good, I seems that one of those giant crash poles in the parking lot suddenly jumped out and caused an issue with the passenger side corner bumper piece. Not the main bumper, just the small piece that wraps around the corner. Anyone know if there are salvage Prevost units around or good advice on where to find a nicely polished corner bumper piece. I need to get this as soon as possible as the “I told you so’s” are getting old and it only happened today!

Bill you could try Visone RV parts PH 606-843-9889. Maybe you will have a better experience with them then I did. IBP Industries 800-468 5287 .They sell new parts very helpful.

That does not sound like a great recommendation for Visone, but I will look into that. As I was thinking about getting a used part I remembered that I also have a cracked alum. wheel on the tag. These older wheels will not fit anything other than a 12R 22.5 tire (8.5″?). So, I could buy 2 newer larger wheels for the steer axle and put some larger metric tire and use the front wheels to replace the cracked tag wheel. Anyone know if there would be issues putting a somewhat larger wheel/tires set (not those giant 365’s) on the fixed axles older bus?

The aluminum wheels are probably 8.25. Cracking is usually caused by over tightening the stud centered nuts. I always see ads for aluminum wheels on ebay, but later model coaches used a steel inner drive wheel when the switch was made to 315 tires so that is an option but you will have to polish the wheel you use from the drive axle.

I have a friend who had an experience that while occuring under different circumstances, part of the result was the same as you’re facing. He obtained the stainless steel corner from IBP and said he was well taken care of.
He did say that his converter made a small modification to the rear of the coach which necessitated the upper part of the bumper corner to be “clipped” and polished. Maybe yours did, maybe it didn’t.
Later my friend discovered that stainless steel like the bumpers and components on our coaches can be pounded out, ground, possibly filled with stainless steel weld material, and polished … he wondered if he shouldn’t have gone down that route. While its something for you to consider, once you get pricing from IBP you might realize that getting new is more cost/time effective than developing the stainless steel metal working skills to fix what’s damaged.
My friend also said that you should look closely at the threaded mounting devices the bumper pieces bolt to. You might have to “straighten them out”. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I was hoping it was a nut and bolt installation as one of the bolts is clearly at an incorrect angle now. This sounds like less fun every minute. I just bought some parts for my wheel covers from IBP so I will give them a call as well.

I would be completely OK with buying a steel wheel for the inner drive wheel and using the one that’s there (I do know it’s alum) on the tag. Can I put one steel wheel on 1 set of drive tires and not the other or would I need to replace both inside wheels with steel?

As long as the steel wheel is 8.25 I don’t know why you need to get two. I know on your vintage coach with 120 tires originally that you have all aluminum wheels, but apart from a small variation in material thickness, bringing the two tires closer together by a fraction of an inch I cannot see any need other than to do that only to rob the aluminum wheel that you need for the tag.

Bill, get in touch with Steve at IBP Industries as suggested above by Craig. He’s got the parts. We had an unfortunate encounter ourselves this summer and replacement small bumper for the entry door is on order.

top edge from bolt hole to end on side. Left or right?

The bumper end piece I need is for the passenger side. The piece is about 10 3/4″ wide (tall) and about 20 1/2″ long measured as I wrap around the corner.
There are 2 bolt holes at the rounded end and 2 at the opposite end (flat) inset about an inch. There is also a small hole at the top and bottom of the piece for a small screw near the flat end.
Any help would be much appreciated.
