Radiator Leak

I did. The probe is in front of reservoir. After getting to Kerrville I had to drive 15 miles for fuel (local stations too small to get in). Going up hills the light came on. Going down it went off. Straight and level it was off. Put in two gallons more at Love’s.

Dick, That expansion tank sensor will shut you down so as long as you are leaking coolant at such a large rate you need a game plan that will allow you to get off the road pronto.

It didn’t shut us down while the light was on. Any idea how long the light can be down before it goes into limp mode?
That’s why I wanted to be on “good roads”. Too many of the secondary roads in the area we were on have NO shoulders.

I think you have 15 seconds once the SEL comes on, but you have the option of pressing the over-ride switch.
A CEL will not shut you down and you can keep driving, but the coolant level sensor is one of the three (oil pressure low, coolant temp high) that go right to SEL.

I didn’t put a stop watch on the light, but I don’t think we got close to 15 seconds. Climbing the big hill east of Kerrville on I-10 it might have gotten close to 15. I suspected there would be a delay between light and limp mode. I kinda think there is a delay between the on/off of the probe and the light to begin with.
