Question about roof air condensation drains
Posted by Marshall on May 14, 2020 at 9:14 pmLooking for some experience here. The pvc condensation drain lines on my roof airs are long past needing to be replaced.
Has anyone successfully replaced the drain lines and can give an overview on how to accomplish? I’m most interested where the lines take a 90 degree turn down through the coach. Can these be easily replaced?
Thank you…….

I had a 97 Royal and always thought it was a poor design with external lines running all over the roof knowing that sooner than later the lines would deteriorate from the sun and weather and need replaced.
I would think it shouldn’t be to bad a job Marshall, but like you said, the 90 degree turn down through the coach would be the hard part. Not sure if you can access the underside side of the roof if you run into trouble at the 90’s. Worst come to worse you could just terminate the line at the rear and let it run off the roof. That also has it’s problems with water stains.

Thanks…..Yes, my PVC piping has deteriorated to the point it has broken in several spots. Sun damage.
I don’t plan on replacing the drain piping inside the coach. I’m sure that’s fine. Just want to replace the exposed piping.
Also exploring PEX to see if it is any more resistant to UV damage.

You can use the grey electrical pvc, designed to withstand UV; It is the same size and mates to plumbing pvc

Marshall,
Following your replacement as our condensation drainage pipes have deteriorated to the point of needing repair also. You may know the difference in PVC and CPVC and are calling the drain lines common PVC. There is a difference, and color can be one identified difference. Thinking the PVC has discolored to a yellowish color is a common misconception, as CPVC is normally a yellowish or light grey color depending on the specific pipe. Also CPVC that is yellowish is not the same sizing as PVC, yellowish is sized the same as Copper tubing not National pipe sizing and may require a different primer and sealant. Attached, if I can get it to work, is a link to a good reference for these pipes.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
