Clifford thanks but I was already waiting on a donor 60 series to come thru the shop. It won’t cost me anywhere near 600 bucks but in the meantime I went and sealed up the gap that was left from the shutters that were removed because they weren’t working! As it is right now, is say its about 95% air tight! Only small gaps are where I attached my foam rubber pipe insulation covered PVC framing using zip ties! It actually was pretty simple! Now if it doesn’t rain tomorrow I might give a try on the interstate to Tampa just to see! Maybe drive to Cracker Barrel/lazy days for lunch!
here is a couple of pics so you can get an idea! I did it this way to see if there would be any change! If so, naybe I can have a professional shroud of sorts made! Who knows, maybe it will just stay as it is! First it has to work!

Ace,
Whatever is in your picture links, it set off my virus program…trojan horse or something like that.
-
has to be something on your end because I’m clean on my end!
-
OK, must have been something here. Worked fine the second try.
-
Hey Ace, I like it. I may try that myself for a test. Thanks for sharing. I also forgot to ask if your door has the rubber seal like mine does.
-
Tom since you also have an H3-40 with an 8v-92, what temps are you running?
-
Winter time is 180. Summer time on flat ground is 195. Pulling mountains in summer not backing way out of it is 205, then I back out 🙂 That is with new radiator and thermostats.
Have to build my shroud like you did and then try. -
Tom that’s good to know! I’m dying to try out the radiator seal that I fabricated but ever since doing it, it’s been rainy or like now, cold! Gonna wait until ambient temps are warmer and take it for a hard run. HOPEFULLY my temps will come down SOME! I’d reall hate to hook my myster up again as its just a bandaid although helped in my situation. If I can cure the high temp problem without the myster and credit it to the radiator seal, I owe each and every one of you guys a huge thanks!
Only time will tell! 🙂

okay guys I was dying to know if my efforts were useless or helpful so today I decided to take the bus out to Cracker Barrel in Seffner near Lazy Days or better Tampa which is about 25 miles from my house. About 20 miles interstate! The ambient temp is 72. I ran the bus steady around 73-74 and the temps never went above 187 and that was pulling a slight incline after being slowed by a car that was crawling along. All in all it ran steady in the 184-185 range doing 72 +- and now I can at least see the temps working like they should. When I came to a stop the temps stayed a steady 180.
The funny thing is now that the radiator is sealed almost 100% it sounds differently when standing next to it while idling and Susan had an Easter dress on and kind of flowing and it sucked so much they the grill that well you can picture what happened. Yep it sucked the dress up and to the grill! I kind of knew it would and that was the reason I coaxed her to move closer.
Anyway, wasting some time here at CB because the temps are supposed to reach low 80’s and hopefully it will tell me more on the way home!
So far I’m a happy busser!

Excellent. There is one area few consider, and I have seen it on some coaches.
The gap between the fan blade tips and the shroud has to be very small. I have seen some coaches with a couple of inches distance and that will allow air to be pulled in from around the blade tips and not through the radiator so that is another area that must be sealed. I don’t know if the space is the result of a change in fans with a smaller diameter or some other reason.

just got home and although the ambient temps are a little higher the bus did in fact run slightly warmer. The most it ran was 193 climbing an incline. As soon as it leveled out it steadied at 191. I was thinking while driving and contribute the higher temps heading east was maybe due to an elevation change. I mean the center of the state is slightly higher in elevation than either coast. You can feel the cruise control that was set on 73 pulling most of the way and not pulling when it was level or there abouts.
All in all, I think what I have done really helped as the temps never neared 200 or above like in the past and I can now see the temps fluctuating with hills and more or less throttle!
looked at the fan blades and distance from shroud. Hardly can slide a finger in so IMHO that’s pretty close!
Thanks to all that have offered suggestions and opinions!
Y’all have a Happy Easter! I already have! 🙂

Ace you can find an incline in Florida that would effect the engine temps???????
What did you make your shroud out of?
