  • Problem Shore power

Posted by Roy on May 22, 2017 at 6:08 am

We just spent four days in Hot springs AR at the non rally rally plugged into 50 amp shore power. ( Great rally).

when we left we ran our generator and air for a couple hours. When I put the coach in the storage unit and connected to a 30 amp receptacle, I get an immediate loud buzz, pause, buzz, pause, etc. I immediately pulled the plug checked the receptacle, electrical power is good and correctly wire. Do I have an automatic transfer switch chattering and going bad?

    Thanks for your help.

When you were hearing the noise did you have steady power in the coach?

When you were connected to shore power at the rally were there any noises or issues with the shore power connection?

No noises or problems when connected 50 amp at the rally. I will have to check today about the lights flickering when the noise is going on. Had all the lights out in the couch and I was connecting to the 30 amp circuit .

Seems like my inverter, and don’t remember the type, buzzed off and on and had to replace it with a Magnum when I plugged it in. Couldn’t really tell until I touched the case and you could feel it. Thought mine was the transfer switch which is in the same bay..

I would think that coach would have a surge guard built in and that could be what is the issue…please verify if that is the case…

I returned the coach plugged it back into the 30 amp circuit and everything was fine. No noise and everything was working.

I do have a surge guard protectiion in the coach.

I’ll just keep a close eye on it; thanks for your help.
