Welcome to PC Liz. I don’t think you can compare a Star/Entertainer coach with one of the current motorhome converters, Liberty, Marathon, Featherlite or Millennium. I know nothing about Florida Coach, but using that comparison would not be apples to apples so to speak. The mission purpose of the Star Coach and a Motorhome are usually quite different.

Not taking anything away from Florida Coach, just not the same use by the owners.

Could you take a look at the advertised X3 2 Slides which seems to be a build out as motorhome with 2 bunks on the internet? I’m not sure if I can post a link to the other side here? She looks to me like a motorhome and not so much an enterainer coach. But then again from distance it is very difficult to judge based on some glossy pictures.

Liz, I saw that coach and went thru it front to back top to bottom trying to see how they put things togather. Was really impressed with the work, systems used and layout, it was not your tipical star coach the front salon would rival any coach on the market with a full coach style kitchen it did have the center bunks but that can be changed. Saw a few things that could be a little better and they would do that in a full blown coach, Talked at length with the company owner and they are very interested in doing a true coach and the numbers they were giveing out will hurt the feelings of some of the big boys how about a twin slide X3-45 built for you for right at a million or less brand new!

My name is Pete Sutton and I work at Marathon.

While I can’t speak to the converter that you have mentioned, I can describe the difference between an entertainer converter and a luxury converter.

Most luxury converters like Marathon take three or four months to convert a coach, once we have the shell from Prevost. Many of the entertainer companies can convert in a month or so.

The time put in does reflect what you get in quality. Marathon’s (and other luxury converters) don’t just look good, there is a great deal of engineering and care put into the product to give you a coach that is of the highest craftmanship and will last for years.

What you don’t see behind the walls makes a big difference in the quality of a coach.

We recently completed and X3 for a customer, have another X3 coming off the produciton floor in the next month, and a third X3 custom order in January. The extra head room is amazing for Prevost owners!

If you want a more direct comparison we would be happy compare specs and discuss the differences with you.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to look at both entertainer and motorhome conversions. An entertainer coach is not built to be lived in as our motorhome conversions are. The differences between an entertainer and motorhome starts with the shell. A motorhome is available with more and larger slides. The entertainer shell is limited in both size and number of slides.

The entertainer is a transport vehicle more than living space. It is intended to carry people from hotel to hotel. Apart from the obvious interior differences that means the systems are set up differently. An entertainer coach is going to have limited battery and inverter capacity, emphasis on AC systems with usually 5 or more roof mounted AC units, and at least one generator that is going to be running almost all the time, and it may even have two generators. The emphasis in the bays is storage space so large capacity water and holding tanks are unlikely. Usually there will be no awnings. The “kitchen” may be little more than a small space to get snacks or drinks. The toilet will be small and private. There will be a shower but no vanities and usually no bath areas as motorhomes have instead just the basics.

The driver area may be closed off, or at least have some divider so while driving at night the lights in the front sitting area are not going to be reflecting off the windshield. The driver will be up front working, while the entertainers will be in the rear relaxing, talking, watching TV, or otherwise doing what they do after a gig and on their way to the next one.

No need to describe a motorhome because we all know what they are. But the entertainer can be a “star” coach that is actually built by an entertainer coach converter and it can be like the motorhome conversions we are used to. The differences are usually in the selection of materials and assembly methods. Our coaches are personal. They are our homes and they are going to get limited use and abuse. Generally the entertainer type construction starts out with an eye toward frequent “refreshing”. It may be used only for a year and get a new interior update with new carpet, maybe a new layout changing from 6 bunks to 9, or possibly a revision to the rear, changing from a seating area to a private bedroom. Entertainer coaches are tools.

I can envision an entertainer conversion working well for a large family because the bunks lend themselves to providing sleeping spaces for kids. But there are likely to be compromises.

Liz, I would encourage you to contact Florida Coach as you look at various options for a Prevost conversion/update/build from new. I have used Florida Coach for my maintenance needs for the past 10+ years as well as modifications/modernization of my coach. Yes, they do make a variety of entertainer coaches for Stars as well as crews but also built fantastic customized Prevost coaches/RVs for private clients. They are a family owned business and most of their staff have been with them for years. Their attention to detail and service sets the standard for others in the business world to follow.
