  • Prevost Parts?

Posted by Chas on May 19, 2016 at 2:25 pm

So twice in one week Prevost Parts has really dropped the ball in a major way.

We had a small leak in our radiator. Had one ordered a couple weeks ago with Prevost stating shipping would be May 16th. evening of May 16th, the update shipping to May 28th. May 17th, they update shipping to June 15th.

So we talk to a couple radiator repair shops that handle heavy duty radiators. Decide we will pull the radiator and get it pulled apart (core is actually in good condition, just one tank has a small leak) rodded, repaired, rebuild, re-assembled and then tested.

While taking the radiator our, the mounting base was rusted pretty bad, So instead of installing it back on that, decide to order a new base mounting plate. Prevost says they have it in stock and shipping out today day to be here the next day. Shipment shows up and there is no base mounting plate. Prevost says that the new shipping date is June 20th?

So how can they be so off on their parts supply chain? Availability? Whats in stock and shipping dates?

Pulled the old base mounting plate and having one fabricated locally to be ready tomorrow. Probably will cost more but it will be done when we need it.

we had a bad experience also with air bags, norgen valves and levelling valves, I won’t get into all the details but what a gong show I appreciate your frustration, seems the bigger they get the worse the service.

Bummer – thought I was the only one:(

If anyone is looking for their box of engine belts (probably ~$1000 worth) they came to my house by mistake:)

A year or so ago Prevost sent me a bill (Email) on my account on parts I didn’t know a thing about. They straightened it out quick but funny just the same. Well funny but the money charged wasn’t funny. Glad it came to me as my Wife would have just paid it since I’m always throwing money at this puppy.

We’ve had nothing but great service from Prevost parts… In fact, we did the same radiator R&R and had the parts we needed in a reasonable time. We have an account with them so possibly they take care of commercial accounts quicker

If you’re going to the trouble of swapping the radiator you might want to check the fan clutch while it’s accessible..We replaced ours and the new one looks like an upgrade.

    David,

Account was actually on the shop that is doing the work and not my personal account so it wasnt due to it being on a small account.

None the less, the shop that fabricated the base mounting plate called me back in about 4 hours and said it was ready. Will be picking it up today so hopefully it looks/works good. Talked to the radiator shop this morning and it’s ready. So again, hopefully it’s all good.

This did allow me to spend some time sanding/cleaning/repainting/caulking the radiator and webasto pump bays. Like some of the coaches, mine has rust in these bays so having access to everything allowed me to try to clean it up and get some paint on the areas to keep some of the rust at bay.

Two good posts. Without a doubt if the radiator (and intercooler) is out there is no better time to replace the fan clutch on coaches with one. The clutch can be changed from the engine side of the radiator but its weight and position makes handling it difficult, and painful if you have a bad back.

The area behind the radiator is highly likely to suffer from rust or corrosion so with that area open it is the ideal time to do some corrosion protection and cleanup. A few bucks worth of wire wheels, sandpaper, brushes and paint will keep the bus in good shape in that area for years to come.

The engine room in ours was a mess…rust everywhere. I cleaned it up and painted with POR-15. I also cleaned and repainted the CAC, coolant and Turbo pipes as well as the engine block. Makes me smile when I open the doors to do a pretrip. Now I need to do the same on the passenger side.

David … on the Garage Journal Forum I often see posted “if there aren’t pictures, it didn’t happen!”
