  • Prevost Parts in Elgin can predict the future!!

Posted by Glenn on May 6, 2015 at 2:26 pm

I have always had really great service any time I have called Prevost in Elgin, really great parts people! I ordered shocks awhile ago and it came with a seperate bag of bushings… the big black ones. I did not need these since my new shocks came with rubber bushings installed.

Prevost said no problem we will come pick em up UPS and credit back…well I did not get around to it and had them hanging around the last few weeks. Fast forward and my rear sway bar bushings are shot…I just did the fronts a few months back.

Call today and they say those bushings I have not returned yet are also for the rear sway bar…so grab a few out of the bag and will send the rest back! Easy!!

I ordered shocks awhile ago and they came with NO bushings. Called back for them, needed four, got eight, no charge. Used the shop press, went right in no problem. Point: Elgin is and has been good. Being 20 miles from our house, I should go thank them personally some day.

Dan: Do you run your 911 or Jetta on the track anywhere? If so, where?

For those not familiar with the underside of a coach one area that has required attention is the “dog bones” or the links that attach the sway bars to the chassis. I believe the original bushings are red urethane bushings that seem to work great as long as the bushings are intact.

But the red bushings will fail over time and when they do it is very fast with the end result being the bushings come apart in chunks and end up completely gone. At that point the coach gets some scary noises under the coach.

I have replaced all the red bushings beneath my coach with the black rubber bushings that also fit the shocks because the rubber seems to do a good job, and when it fails as it ages it does no disintegrate like the red ones.

    Dick.

I had to order the 911 to get it made my way (no sunroof for example). Ordered it in Feb but don’t actually get it until late June or early July. Then I have to put 2000 miles on it for motor breakin before I beat on it. So next year will probably do a couple of weekends, say Road America and Autobahn. But have raced at seven tracks in the Midwest between 1975 and 2009, mostly Road America, and some Blackhawk Farms but never really liked how hard the latter is on brakes.

The cup is my wife’s daily driver, she loves it, dual clutch tranny, electronic power steering, 37/43 mpg, etc. It would be easier to pass an amendment to the constitution than to get permission.
