  • Prevost newbie but ready to give up

Posted by Jeff on July 5, 2020 at 10:41 pm

Just purchased a 2002 H3-45 out of Florida. I purchased it from a gentleman that I’m certain many of you on here know from his years with Prevost. I was told the chassis had been zeroed, all air lines, and fittings had been replaced along with much more, and that it needed nothing because it had been his personal coach for app 3 years. Every single time I have been out in it I have experienced some type problem from air line issues to now the aux air pump is blowing air straight out the bottom of it. Generator will work perfect and then out of the blue I’ll crank it and once I put a load on it it shuts off. Really frustrated!! I’ve had several class A motorhomes but thought we’d spend a little more and step up to a Prevost even though it’s 18 years old with only 115,000 miles. Would love to hear feedback from you guys on here. Thanks in advance and God Bless.

If your Auto Start is switched on and your batteries are fully charged it will shut it down.

Hmm, his personal coach, does that mean he’s a broker or bus flipper? It helps if you identify your conversion. Replacing all air lines is a stretch for sure. Assuming you didn’t do any pre buy inspection, your best bet would be to get the bus to one of our service shops such as Tradewinds in Florida, East Tennessee Luxury Coach, Prevost or the Converter to get things straightened out.

I would assume that the coach needs to be zeroed out. I would take it to Jeff Rowe, East Tennessee Luxury Coach, Vonore, Tennessee for a complete inspection and develop a plan to fix what needs to be fixed. I start with things that do not work and things that impact the safety of the coach.

If the air issues are bus related I would and have taken her to Prevost . They know the coach inside out after all they built it . If your air issues are converter related then do as Tom suggest .

Every seller is honest and will never lie about the coach or its condition or its maintenance history.

Every coach sold has been well maintained and needs nothing.

    (Sarcasm off)

And everything a seller says has to be verified. I would never suggest to anyone that the seller’s representation of the coach is so good a detailed inspection of the coach and related maintenance history records will not be needed.

Having painted such a gloomy picture of the typical sales pitch, and stressing the need for verification now it is time to move ahead. Every coach has occasional glitches, some owner induced because of lack of knowledge, and some because coaches do occasionally break, and some because the coach was rode hard and put away wet.

Step one is to see if you can get together with a member who owns your conversion type (model, year, converter, etc) and spend time with that member to learn the coach so you know how and why the systems operate as they do. Perhaps that member can help you understand what is normal and what might need attention or repair.

Tom’s advice about getting folks like Tradewinds or ETLC involved is a good one because they are capable of going over the coach and fixing what really needs to get fixed.

It needs to be repeated again, not as a criticism but as a statement of fact. If a seller is presenting a coach as having all maintenance up to date, new parts, etc. treat those claims as fertilizer unless and until you see the proof. If all such work is not documented with log books, receipts, packing slips for new parts, etc treat the work as never having been done. I don’t care if the seller is a converter, dealer or broker, or a private seller. Verify!

If Jon had a dues dollar for every time he has posted the word “Verify” he would have enough money to buy several smart phones.

Please add a signature line and include some coach specific information so anytime you post folks will be able to respond with specifics related to your conversion.

Do we have any Vantare/Featherlite owners in N. Mississippi that might be in a position to help, and of our Vantare/Featherlite members can we get some help here relating to what might be causing the described problem?

Good luck zeroing your coach out. After owning my 91XL bought with 50,000 miles on it 10 years ago figured that a good mechanic/tech and a pocket full of these will get it done. Don’t believe me, Ask Harry.
