I’d say just get started with small claims. Whether you saw him do it or not it’d still be a he said she said. I even wonder if cameras would really show it. It might….. Might not.
Their actions after the fact though are probably telling and the guy will probably mouth off in court if he even Shows up. I’d think that a judge would look in your favor. It’s not a criminal trial….. no beyond a reasonable doubt business.
Those marks as so peculiar…. You didn’t find anything around their shop that could have done that? If you did and they could “match up…” that and the tech joyride would be a slam dunk to me.
Coulda been a backed up uturn…. Not gonna lie…. I dragged our rear just a bit doing that. Ugh…. Only myself to blame there.

Waltshires, you right. we think the driver backed onto something, panicked. pulled away making thingscworse instead stopping getting out. And not being familiar with the prevost level low, if used, damage might have been less. we were shown the dyno. It was surface mounted, meaning rollers were above ground. In early part of this thread you will see coach ass end poised to drive backwards up onto it. They showed us the equipment.
Before we departed monday after test, i failed to do nothing more than a cursory walk around. noted to myself, the fast idle was not on, while the coach was left running after the test completion.
part of the test is to visually inspect exhaust. that visual test should notated muffler damage. No notation. if they had, it would have made us look at it before we left. As it was, they knowingly let us leave for the freeway with an unknown loose/broken mounts on muffler the size of a suitcase that would a dangerous projectile if it fell,from the bus -

Go take them to court with Judge Judy. I know I’d like to hear their dog and pony tale about two scoundrels from Colorado that did not know their bus muffler was damaged pre-inspection on a very expensive coach. Take your book of maintenance work since bought and see what the Judge says. Could recover costs up to $5,000 and damage the shop’s reputation in front of many people nationwide.

Maybe consider sending an invoice for parts, labor, and ALL your time directly to the State emissions office and CC your local State law maker. The only way to fix this is change the law. The only way laws change laws is to be a squeaky wheel. This is a horrible thing to have happen. Best of luck getting your coach back in perfect working order and motivating the State to adjust their policy.

I’m “on it” gentlemen! For those who know, I can be a bit of a squeaky wheel “with documentation. I have been told by her office last Friday, I’ll be getting a call from our State representative today
Also I’m sure I’ll be getting a call from Dept Of Revenue who oversees emissions testing. At first, last Wednesday we were going to “eat” the muffler replacement, but not now
Looking under the bus over the weekend to see how secure the muffler is, if it needed more stability to make trip to Stewart Stevenson tomorrow now that we know how extensive the damage is for inspection I saw more “marks”. Light green paint on the underside of the bumper outboard from the rubber bumper guard. Also a scrape showing just how far back to bus rear the muffler was shoved! That’s obviously when fan blade made contact with exhaust pipe. Correspondingly, behind tag rear of tire, Marathon fender flare attachment/mud flap/muffler attachments are all bent, but secure. With radiator fan blade having damage, and recommendations from this forum, we have decided to replace fan, clutch, radiator, and other ancillary parts while having the radiator removed for the blade replacement.
Anyone have anymore suggestions. Mira Loma, is going to be busy, If we get the ok to travel 1000 miles from S and S tomorrow. Otherwise, we will have to order parts ourselves and have Stewart Stevenson do the repairs at the jeopardy to our house batteries (nowhere to plug in for shorepowed and missing our October rallies and get-together with friends. Marathon Coach Club knowing us over the years told me Friday we can bring one of our airstreams to the Monterey CA rally October 9-15 so we don’t have to cancel. T omorrow we will know more . Never fear George and Becky, we will see you 10-22 Ruidoso!!

First, so sorry to hear of the damage. Secondly, I’m glad that you are going to pursue a claim.
I know it will take time but I think it will be worth it to try and recoup your losses.

Jim, you probably are aware of this, but just a reminder; have the charge air cooler pressure checked when you have the radiator out. I thought mine was fine, but had it checked while redoing the radiator. I’m headed to Omaha in a few minutes to pick up a new one………

Update. Our insurance adjuster called yesterday. Faxed him our inspection report from a visit to our Stewart Stevenson. Although repairs are needed, we don’t have to miss our Marathon rally in Monterey CA. We will Monterey 10-15th for Monday appointment 10-17th. Then be at Mira Loma the rest of the week
In good day light at SN S showed our left rear bumper area some impact as well. I want to know just what the hell the emission shop hit and backed over.
So far, parts covered: muffler et al, new fan blade, possible exhaust pipe, muffler, outer curve left bumper and main rear bumper. We are springing for an clutch and radiator, since “rad” is coming out anyway. M. One way to “zero” out cooling system. I will have them include changing the thermostat or stats haven’t checked on how many. Hopefully Mira Mona can do all this in 5 days.
what an ordeal -
Got the repairs done at Mira Loma this week. Also replaced radiator fan clutch and smaller garden rubber coolant hoses. One big surprise was our charge air cooler blew lots of soapy water bubbles, so had to replace it
so now we are good as before our damaging emissions test last month.
