I would agree, it looks as though the fire started in the engine bay of the truck and spread to the backside of the coach.

I’m with you guys, it looks like the truck started the fire. I didn’t notice it the first time I ran the video, but it sure looks like the truck!

Last month a friend’s toad caught fire behind his rig on I 75 in FL. Luckily he saw flames in the rear view mirror, stopped and with the help of State Patrol put out the fire quickly. No damage to the rig. Major toad damage. Chevy Malibu I think. Cause? He’d forgotten to take the toad out of gear.

I’ve been lucky for many years towing. I still review a step-by-step checklist in the toad while hooking up every time. And I refuse to have a conversation with anyone, usually a gawker, while hooking up the toad to leave a campground. I’m sure they think I’m an arrogant Prevost owner but I’d rather not see flames in the rear.

I was talking to a guy at the park today and showed him the above video. He told me he’s had a motor home for 22 years and has seen a number of such fires. He said he doesn’t remember ever seeing a toad on fire using a dolly? He said that he tows 4 down and was just making the comment.

Now we know why the engine compartment looks so nice & clean! It has been completely re-done.
