Powertech susceptible to Damage by Foam in bay
Several post on Prevost forum says the foam will damage the generator. looking for info on how this is damaging to the generator

I can only think of foam coming down and catching fire on a hot exhaust.
If in doubt, gut out and use Sounddown

I would think that deteriorating foam insulation turns into a fine dust that can get sucked into the armature and this acts like sand grinding at the armature and brushes (if they are called brushes). This creates a larger gap between the brushes and the armature. Wears down the windings.
Sounds good to me so I will go with that.
In my 99 CC that foam stuff would crumble into a fine dust.

Also there is an evacuation fan that can get clogged up with debris and fail.

From what I have seen so far the insulation is of a plastic type material and is melting onto the armature and keeping the electricity from crossing it

My generator bay was just like Buddy described. The old gray egg shell looking insulation was deteriorating and a very fine dust falling down along with an occasional chunk or two that I could remove carefully from top of generator. I used 2″ Soundown that I purchased from a yacht supply. Soundown has a website which is soundown.com and it is also available on Amazon and some marine supply houses. change the evacuation fan while the generator is out, trust me it is a PIA to do later.

You can google sundown insulation. I used 1” thick with adhesive and did not remove the generator. I added ss screws with fender washers because the adhesive is not enough.
