My CC has a push button stop/start for the generator. You push the button, it does a 20 sec. warm up and then the generator starts. After a short time (seconds) it shuts down. If I go to the genetic outside and push and hold the start button it runs and runs until I release the start button and it shuts down. There must be a solenoid or similar that control the warmup/start/run cycle. Anyone have an idea?

    Hey Bill,

I was just looking through some threads in POG and one thing I saw in a few threads was the auto start was engaged. Look like if its engaged the genset will shut down after a few seconds. I have a Marathon with the dash switches but on the genset I have a 3 position toggle switch up for warm up and down to start.

Yes, on the generator I have the same warm/start switch. The auto start button is not lit but I will check that again. Just can’t figure out why it runs as long as I hold the start toggle switch up.

    Bill:

Have not had this issue with my bus but have experienced it with a couple of different boat generators.
The start/prime/preheat (what ever they call it) switch momentarily over rides the various shut down sensors (I.E. oil psi, Eng temp,). I have had the oil pressure switch (not the oil pressure gauge sender) go bad so….

With the start switch being held the oil psi switch is overridden, once the Eng starts you release the start switch, now the Eng oil psi switch comes back in play and shuts the Eng down.

Try locating and momentarily overriding the oil pressure switch.

Adding to the confusion, I am sitting I’m a rest area with the genetic happily purring along for the hour or so. I hate these intermittent problems!
