  • Powertech / low voltage

Posted by Clint on July 30, 2023 at 3:20 pm

I have a low voltage situation on both legs on the input side of the transfer switch coming from the generator. I’m getting 9v on each leg, 18v across both.

Once I figure out how to get into the powertech control box I’ll meter the line side of the main breaker, I expect to see the same. Hopefully this is just a regulator issue.

Only had the bus since march, pulled the genny out for the first time, powertech control box way in the back on top. Looks like a bear to get to much less to meter anything while it’s running.

I don’t know how a Royal is wired but just some basic bus knowledge tells me how do you know the generator was running the front ac?

Most converters power the front ac thru the inverter so you could of had the motor keeping your batteries up enough to the front unit and when you shut the bus down it quit in 20 minutes which makes sense.

What kind of voltage do you get on shore power coming into the bus and when on Gen what does it do at the transfer switch.

My point is you say Gen does not miss a beat but is it charging? Also what kind of inverters do you have?

Before you start taking out the control box a couple simple tests should tell you alot. Do you know what ac units are on inverters?

Converters have always had Gen power over ride shore power.

I just saw you changed your post? I tried to answer your first writings.

at the transfer switch on shore input side I’m seeing 120v on both legs. When generator is on I’m seeing 9v on both legs at the transfer switch. The inverter panel(s) shows no ac / inverting when the generator is running, which make sense if generator input to transfer switch is at 9v ea leg.

Royal wired the center to be able to run on inverter, the front and back only on generator.

What really blows my mind at this point is the possibility of having to remove the generator just to get into the powertech control box. Talked to Josh (ETLC) and he said it’s a possibility that’s what I’ll need to do. Talked Glen (Royal Phoenix) and he confirmed. My generator is mounted east/west.
