Am I missing something here? Sounds like 2 people got the same parts replaced and one paid $5100 and the other paid $800 ?????

I would really like to know if the parts that were replaced were the same and how much of each bill was for labor.

I know I would be very happy to get a new generator end for only $800. But very unhappy if I had to pay $5100 for the same thing.

I read that as $800 for labor PLUS the cost of parts.

My concern is if the generators in question are typical. Very few on here accumulate a lot of generator time. Our generators should outlast the coach.

I think it’s more of a problem with the 17.5KW Powertech, as opposed to their 20KW unit. In the Wanderlodge world there were quite a few failures of the bearings on the 17.5KW and 15KW genny, which I believe use the same generator head. I’ve also heard of a few in the Newell world. I’m afraid the smaller genny’s got the smaller, not quite industrial strength bearing. For RV owners it’s more of a matter of age on the generator than hours of use. For heavily used generators 3000 hours is about the lifetime of the bearing. For lightly used gennys, about 10 years. Folks can probably save some money by proactively replacing the bearing.

Here’s the breakdown:

Rotor / Stator assembly $ 2790

Regulator $ 295

Oil, Fuel, Air filters plus oil and coolant $ 134

Labor and shipping (expedited) $ 1660

and tax.

By the way – no sign of impending doom on the unit – worked great until —- no AC output although we were traveling, not stationary so we heard very little.

I would return to Advanced Generator for service – good people.
