Powertech Gen won`t shut down manually
Posted by steve on December 28, 2014 at 4:00 pm17kw powertech starts , picks up load but won`t shut down automatically when battery voltage comes back to preset voltage or shore power restored. Checked 4000 trace inverters to be at factory settings. To stop I pull the throttle linkage back. Any ideas ?

Can we assume this is when the generator controls are set for auto-start or shore power interruption?
What does it show as normal operation in the owner’s manual?
Is your auto start or power interrupt through the inverters and if so what does that say about normal operation?

Basic as it gets…. diesel engines stop running when the fuel supply quits.
Is there some type of control to do what you are doing by hand ?
-
yeap. set to auto start. Gen auto start after battery volts = 22.6 for 30 seconds. This is my choice from inverters setup for normal ops.
-
only shutdown options are with generator stop button or manually on generator linkage.

Steve,
I would start out by calling Jeff Jones at Powertech. He is the Customer service Tech guy. 352-435-4416

Steve, suggest a call to Ben at Parliament. Just had the same problem corrected. Evidently some Vantares were wired incorrectly at the inverters from the get-go. Ours turned out to be a relay and an easy fix. Geo.

Believe I`ll give Ben a call. He`s gotten me goin before. Thanks guys ! I`ll report the findings.

Steve,
Since you are able to set the auto start voltage, you may want to think about 24 volts for the start, that’s just under 50% discharge of 24.4, your batteries will last longer.
-
Good thought Tom. I called Dekka last year & talked to their design engineer & he said to “periodically” discharge to @ 50% for battery longevity. He couldn`t define “periodically” so I do it @ every 2-3 months and load up the gen every month.

On our 1998 Vantare I had to be sure that the generator was set to the off position on both inverters in order for all the generator functions to work correctly. Just a thought.
Aren’t you close to Jeff’s place? I bet he knows. Also Ben is a Vantare whiz.
Good luck.

Steve,
There’s your problem, you’re using Deka! Just kidding, but when they die, call me for Lifelines..
-
Fixed ! For some reason Trace inverter SW4024 menu # 13 for gen starting RY7 function was set to Run instead of Glowstop. This allows a stop signal to shutdown the gen.
-
That’s what I thought… ours had to be set to stop or off in order to function properly.. if it was on run those functions wouldn’t work on command.
Glad it’s fixed.
