Power steering filter?
Posted by Andre on October 29, 2012 at 8:45 amHow may filters are in the power steering fluid tank? I have a 1998 XLV. I checked on Prevost Cat Base and it appears that there is only 1 filter. However I seem to remember someone saying that there are 3 filters.
part number: 660987 Element Filter
Thanks

Bumping this one up!
I bought a new filter and want to put in along with some fresh Dexron. Any tips on this, do you guys just drain the reservoir and install new filter and top off?
I realize this is not a full flush of the system but can’t hurt to get some fresh fluid in it.

I am not sure what the Prevost requirement is for power steering fluid service, but I have changed the filter. Open the top of the black reservoir and it is down in there easy to get at and change.

Thanks Jon, so you never bother to swap out the fluid itself much? On my old truck I would use the turkey baster method at every oil change and get some old out and new in…kinda what I want to do here….

On my old Royale at bottom of tank inside at bottom of filter there was a o ring make sure it’s in place when u change filter I put new one in

Peter, that filter is a lil tuff to get it out of there, not a whole lot of room to get a grip on it!
I did not see o-ring on old filter so I think it stayed in place, new filter went in nice and I drained the whole reservoir and filled with fresh Dexron.
Where do you set your cold fluid level at? Just barely registering on the dipstick?

Just looked at my dip stick and the low mark says “add”, while the top line says “full”. So does that equal cold and hot? Or should I add some. The level is at the add line and its cold – sittin in Calgary a week.

Dan, here’s how I would determine if I should add. I would check it when it is hot. If it is still low, I would add. Some dip sticks have two sides, one for a cold reading and the opposite side marked for hot readings.
