  • Power cord reel remote

Posted by Mike/Lisa on March 25, 2019 at 11:36 am

The remote control fab – or something related to same – for the power cord reel on my coach no longer works. New battery no help. Discussed with those who make the reel and only solution they have is whole new reel setup. They are very (very!) proud of that piece of equipment to the tune of around $800. I can still bend over and work the thing by the mounted switch (and that works just fine) BUT would be nice to have the remote work.

Anyone know of a solution besides $$$$$$$$$$$$? Thanks Mike

Mine was acting up, there was a lose connector on the relay in the closet in the bedroom behind one of the velcro attached covers, mine was in the one next to the drawers.

When I first bought the coach, Marathon replaced mine, um… 40 hours labor.

I didn’t get one when I purchased the bus. I was going to ask Marathon but at a full replacement cost ($800 plus labor) I think I will stick with the current voice activated option. VOICE ACTIVATE OPTION – I tell my bride (more like ask) to hit the cord out or cord in button until it is where I need it. In the long run it would probably be cheaper to pay Marathon the cost plus labor.

When those old remotes stop working, you’re SOL, there is no option other than replacement according to Glendinning.

Glendinning told me I would need only to replace the little box that receives the signal from the remote transmitter for about $300. Not replace the entire reel.

Our remote did not work either when we got the coach. Turns out on our Marathon, the receiver/antenna is in the overhead cupboard above the bed. Look for access in the left side wall. You’ll find the receiver and a small fuse. Once we replaced the fuse, the remote came to live and has been working great since.

Loc – Lisa just had her second hip replacement so your method unlikely to be an option for me. Only controls are remote or switch in water bay.

Dan – they didn’t give me that option. Might pop for $300 but not likely not for the larger $$$$ as longer as I can reach the manual switch.

Have checked all the fuses, etc. Thx for input. Mike

Do you have a picture of your remote?

    Mike,

If Courtenay ever sees this post it may not be an option for me either.

Fix for remote control power cord. This isn’t my fix, my friend Marty Nixon beat me to it.

$100 to $150 will fix your remote. You can buy a remote on Ebay from China to make your old system work.

There are two units to the old remote, take the remote unit and do away with it. Wire the China remote like picture and away you go. If it goes out when it should come in reverse the yellow and white wires.
