Power Cord Preservation
Having read multiple posts about the misery involved with replacing the plug or sometimes the entire cord to get something that would fit back into the port in the side of my Liberty I decided to take action to preserve the plug as long as possible.
Although I am careful not to drag the plug on the ground, especially hard surfaces, sometimes when parking such that the power box is on the “wrong” side of the coach, I sometimes have to drag the plug under the bus to get it to the other side. The sound of the plug and or the brass prongs dragging on the ground is disconcerting at the least.
Today inspiration struck. A little surgery on a Gatorade bottle made a protective cover for the plug when faced with situation where it must be dragged under the bus, no pun intended.
Using the saw blade of my Swiss tool (the first time I ever actually used that feature and it worked well) I cut out about 3/4 inch of the bottle neck and widened the cut to make about a two inch flap.
Peel back the flap, stuff the plug in the jar and spring the remaining neck of the jar over the white nylon ferrule on cord and it stays on well enough to toss the cord under the bus to the other side without tearing up the plug.

So, you don’t have the extra shore connection in the passenger rear engine compartment for those times when you need to connect on that side?

Great idea. I follow the same procedures with our power cord and plug and don’t like getting the plug curb side and back. I’ll make a similar cover.
Mark … back in the 90’s and early 2000’s I think one of the differences between a Liberty Elegant Lady and a Classic Coach was the curb/pax side 50amp female outlet. We have a curb/pax side 50amp outlet on our coach. I carry a nice, clean, never used cord with the twist-lock female plug in the back closet. Rather than drag it out and get it dirty, I pass the primary cord under the coach. Someday I’ll use the fancy cord to plug the coach into the transfer switch at home when the power goes out or if the primary cord is too short to a curb side outlet, or if we need an extension cord to a distant shore power station.

Yes we have the Marinco connections on port and starboard sides, but it is so many extra steps to use it – get the cord out of a bay, plug it into connector, open/close port bay one to turn the switch to starboard feed, and the reverse when unhooking plus manually winding up a heavy cord, I find it easier to pass the reel cord under the bus.
