Have you checked the engine vent line ? Probably a rubber hose from the valve cover.

Al, not sure what your saying . Are you thinking this is where the smoke came or possible overheat issue ?

there is a point we need to trust in the pro that deal with it each day.. All I can say it is not acting correct. Might be cheaper to replace than rebuild. Only you can do math on that. A new/rebuilt engine ?will it be generator part go sooner? Please do let us know the outcome of your breakdown..best wishes.. Bob

Well we have a update . Yesterday the Genny was removed and what a job that was . I do think we found the reason she overheated with no warning . In the rear their is a overtemp sensor . seems somewhere in time she connection failed . In my opinion a clip on electrical fitting should not have been used . Kind of like using push on fitting for brake air lines , no one would do that .
Now the time has come on what to do next . Rebuild or replace . Any thoughts ?

Find a reputable diesel engine shop preferably Kubota if yours is a Kubota.
Gasket, heads, and pistons are listed for sale. If block not damaged possible just hone and replace rings, new gasket and head refurbish. Engine should be as good as a new one. These things run for thousands of hours unless service issue affects them.
Main thing is to know how water level got so low.

Wanted to post a little update on my Genny Issue. I keep saying it is a Genny issue but in reality it is the motor not Genny head The Genny is out of the Bus and is now a passenger in my pick up truck . I have been searching to find someone to rebuild her Isuzu motor as it seems a rebuild will be needed .
Have not done a compression check however Jeff over at Powertech pointed out a few observation’s pointing to a rebuild . So the search continues 🙂

Yesterday we started tearing into the genny , for the past week she has traveled with me and we have become very close Jenny and I 🙂
Well sadly the damage is to the block itself . All 4 cylinder holes are scorn . So not sure what to do next , any thoughts ?

Al just my opinion but 3 major components in motor, block ,crankshaft, camshaft ,it might be best to look for another complete motor if all need replacement. If it wasn’t for bad luck I would have no luck at all.Seriously good luck.

Get actual model designation and go on Ebay and look for used engine and just google the engine and you will find people selling used engines.

Thank ‘s for the feedback guys . There is a motor in Houston . It does not have a charger and I can not find the plate with any numbers . Their is a number on the block so I might try that . I found a complete motor and genny and plan to call Monday to see if available .
I guess i will also look into having this one rebuilt and hold as a spare just like the race car guys 🙂
-
Can someone tell me how you separate the genny from the motor ? Seems their are 6 bolts that i would need a special tool to reach and to reinstall who knows what i would need . Their must be a better way . Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong ?

Having a spare generator or generator motor may be comforting, but given normal life spans of our generators it is like wearing two belts and two suspenders at the same time.
It is reasonable to expect 30,000 to 40,000 hours from our generators so except for unusual circumstances the average PC member will only ever have issues if the generator has not been maintained.

Jon, the generator in our Vantare does not allow for access to the rear . The only way this can be seen or services is to remove . That job took a trained technician 6.5 hrs.
It also appears this genny was built on a Tues or Monday as they say . The black smoke I spoke about , came from 2 missing bolts on the exhaust manifold .
I was joking about a spare . I’m thinking about having it rebuilt and selling as these are not easy to find . In fact the one I found may have been from a old add not removed .
I plan on replacing the water pump , belt and high temp sensor along with air pucks prior to putting her back . Also going to change the set up on the air like marathon however no space to mount the radiator so that will be removed cleaned and serviced . Then with 200 hr service I just might get 20k hours as I should and came close on our last coach prior to selling . We should know more in a few hours if the unit is available . Thanks again for the reply keep them coming 🙂

Little update to share . I paid for the New to me used Genny and it is on its way to Mototcoach Clearwater. A friend and I are in the process of removing the radiator and fan. The plan is to recore the radiator and most likely replace the motor in the fan prior to sealing everything back together .
As the the motor I bought she has 2,800 hrs on her . besides a oil and filter change and a new belt what else would you do if getting back their involves 7 hrs of work . I also will replace all air springs and eliminate the compressor in that area and set it up like Marathon .
any other ideas while I’m back their ?
