  • POS Zip Dee Evolution awning

Posted by Archived on March 2, 2018 at 1:49 pm

I have the awful air/electric awning on my coach and of course it quit on me again. I have gotten to know it very well and can operate it manually (which I have to do most of the time). However, the motor has locked up/quit all together. I am getting 27.3 VDC to the motor as well as the polarity reversing just like it should but no noise or try is coming from the motor, even with a “tap” from a rather large hammer (it was hard not to get carried away and smash the whole thing).

Zip Dee said the company that made that motor has gone out of business and they are trying get a different vendor to supply a motor but are at least 30 days out.

I have never had the motor out of the awning and don’t really want to take it out without a new one on hand b/c we are currently using the coach.

Anything else to check on or around the motor/limit switches or when they’re done, their done?

    Thanks all.

Sounds like the motor Pat, they are a PIA, my 01 Liberty was the same.

Pat if you are referring to the motor in the end of the awning itself ,when I changed out my awning to the new electric only model, I left my old awning with Kenneth at Trawick over in your neck of the woods. I posted the entire awning for free, but to my knowledge no one ever picked it up. Kenneth is good at hanging on to useful parts so he may have at least salvaged the motor if the 22′ bar and material was disposed of. Probably a long shot, but might be worth a call.

Thanks George. Kenneth said he still had it and I was welcome to come by and grab it. I sure appreciate it.

I had a guy out here in AZ where we are staying suggest that I take my motor apart and do the brushes basically rebuilding it. He said unless it has turned into a ball of rust it would be worth salvaging. I will have to see when I get it apart.

To all, I will hang on to the rest of the awning and if anyone sees this post I will be more than happy to help anyone else with a part(s) they may need from George’s old awning.

    Thanks again.

    Pat,

Glad to hear it is still there. That awning was new in 2014 so everything that was saved should be in good shape. FYI the Sunbrella material color is called taupe on their website.

TEXAS 40, Pat is removing the parts needed and saving the awning and hardware for me to pick up. Thanks for sharing these parts for Pat and myself. Darrell

My pleasure Darrell. I’m just glad someone got to use them and hope they serve you both well.

I have the famous Zip Dee Lateral Awnings on my coach. Both anometers have had unfortunate collisions with tree limbs and I am in need of replacements. The kind folks at Zip Dee want 150 bucks a piece for the 10 dollar parts

Does anyone have an alternative source that might be a few bucks cheaper?

    Thanks in advance
